Californication, Flashpoint renewed

David Duchovny's series gets the greenlight for a fourth series. But where is the third series in Oz?

caliJust don’t tell a certain family association….

Showtime has renewed Californication in the US for a fourth series.

The third season opened to strong ratings of 1.2 million cable viewers for its two opening-night airings -up 57% from the previous season .

So far TEN is yet to announce whether it is proceeding with the series. It was absent from a mid year Press Release about returning titles. Too many ACMA slaps…?

Meanwhile CBS has renewed Canadian-produced Flashpoint for a third series, with 13 more episodes. It was already picked up by Canada’s CTV.

The series, which revolves around the members of a strategic response unit, was nabbed by CBS during the US Writer’s Strike.

It aired in Australia on Nine and was recently promised for “the second half of 2009.” Summer?

  1. I found Californication too lyrical in parts to be aired on commerical television. It’s so much better watching it without ill timed commercial breaks and the gentler elements of the storyline have more time to breathe.

Did Channel 10 ever air beyond Series One?

  2. Californication will end up like any “on the edge” program of decent quality that TEN has rights to. Nurse Jackie, Little Britain USA, The Office, Dexter, Flight of the Conchords…all been treated terribly…late night timeslots which jump from Mondays to Sundays to Fridays to Saturdays.

Do yourself a favour…DVD box sets for the lot of them.

  3. For Ten to show Californication now, it’d go into our summer recess when ratings aren’t supposedly meant to count and it rates poorly for them (as they’d have to show it at 10.30 or 11 pm). This will cost Ten, as Aus reader – viewers know how to access it.

  4. I’m a Californication fan too. I’ve seen the first few episodes of the third series, though, and I personally found them pretty disappointing.

  5. I love Californication. It’s probably the best cable show that’s still on tv. The only problem is I can’t get enough of it. Six hours (12 x 30 minute episodes) per year just isn’t enough!!

  6. I think Ten will probably end up screening the third series, given that they are currently repeating the second. Besides, the show itself has only really breached the code once, back in season 1 with the ep10 threesome scene. The season 2 breaches were due to screw ups by whoever was in charge of entering the classification data into the system for broadcast. Such a silly mistake could have happened with any show.

  7. Good news on both…

Second half of 2009 goes until Dec 31, so I guess Nine will use Flashpoint as a summer filler, with they would just put it on GO! and run the eps in correct order!

  8. Quite like Californication – it is not the same old sacharine US material, but I dont hold much hope for seeing it here, in one piece anyway. No idea why some people just dont exercise their right and Turn It Off if they dont like it.
