Good Charlotte for Idol

Good Charlotte's Benji and Joel Madden are set to appear as mentors and guest judges for "Noughties" week.

goodcharlotteAustralian Idol will get back to its core audience with the announcement of Good Charlotte’s Benji and Joel Madden as mentors and guest judges on Sunday 1st November.

Most of the guests judges this year have been arguably outside the demographic of the show including Suzi Quatro, Ross Wilson, Harry Connick Jr. and Liza Minnelli.

The two will appear on the week that sees the Top 4 tackle songs from “The Noughties.”

The Madden twins are also co-hosting the Kid’s Choice Awards with Delta Goodrem for Nickelodeon on November 13th.

  1. I found it quite strange that Andrew or Ricki-Lee didn’t announce this week’s theme during the last show.

David, are you sure that this Sunday is Idol’s Choice, as I thought they already had it earlier on. Are the Idol’s performing one or two songs? If they are performing twice, are both performences Idol’s Choice or is one of them the judge’s choice.

So if this week is Idol’s Choice, the following week Noughties Week, the week after must either be Aussie Hits or Disco?

My favourite mentor so far has been Suzi Quatro.

  2. Noughties week, so that’s songs from the years 2000 until now?

I never expected Good Charalotte or members of them as guest judges.

I still don’t really know what this Sunday night’s theme is, as Andrew or Ricki-Lee didn’t announce it on the last show which I found strange.

Originally Wikepedia had the top 5 theme being Disco with guest mentor/judge Mika, top 4 theme being Aussie Hits with guest mentor/judge Delta Goodrem and for the top 3 Judge’s Choice. I guess to fit in hits from the Noughties, that means one of three on Wikepedia won’t be happening. I would say disco, as every season has had an Australian night of some sort and the judge’s choice is quite important.

  3. @ leon ?? what are you referring to the beatles going digital?? other then that EMI did extremely well with the recent remasters with the minor quibble being the mono set should not have been so limited.

And it’s been done before Idol had a beatles night about 2 or 3 years ago and we’re due for another one!

  4. @ Koverstreet: The noughties have be an amazing decade for music…if you just ignore the majority of what’s playing on commercial radio and listen to the stuff that’s been released by real artists, who still write their own songs (Not that there can’t be time for some Britney/Rihanna/Lady Gaga appreciation every now and then – preferrably plastered). The last ten years have been pretty damned good for lovers of indie, alternate and especially Australian music.

  5. As a child and teen of the noughties this will be great. Will be interesting to see what songs the contestants select since this has never been done before.

  6. I doubt you’ll get a Beatles night, EMI/Apple are still screwing everyone around when it comes to The Beatles.

Good Charlotte hosting the 00s Idol, Pathetic choice.. They’ve done buckleys & f*** all for the last 3yrs..

  7. Bleh not as bad as Pink night but almost, the noughties have been such a terrible decade for music.

I’ll still watch but would much prefer another Beatles night or even an ABBA one.
