QTQ gets News makeover

Channel Nine completed its three East Coast news studio makeovers yesterday with a new set for QTQ9's News.

qtqChannel Nine completed its three East Coast news studio makeovers yesterday when Brisbane presenter Andrew Lofthouse gained a new-look set.

The sleek look matches the Nine News sets in Sydney and Melbourne, which both underwent changes in preceding months.

As with other cities, it features plasma screens with a live city backdrop.

But it wasn’t the only change, with Lofthouse now reading the news solo.

Melissa Downes began maternity leave on Friday, while weekend presenter Heather Foord is on sick leave. A Nine spokeswoman said it is unknown yet when Foord will return to her duties.

Eva Milic will fill in for Foord before also taking maternity leave at the end of the year.

No word on changes for Adelaide and Perth newsrooms which are both under WIN management.

  1. It’s official: Ten News’s Brisbane set is out of date!

If you even looked at our Ten News set, you would be sick of it, while Syd/Mel got new sets in the last year.

    As a friend said:
“Ten News Queensland, out of TVQ Brisbane, is looking so so so tired – their dark studio is a real turn-off with the overly serious style of Georgie and Bill. Come on guys, time to brighten up.”

Now, I have had my five cents, I’ll say this.

Nine did the right thing by doing what Ten wouldn’t, but it is now it’s up to Lofthouse to buck the trend that solo commercial presenters have in this city, that running weekdays solo, will damage your ratings, heavily.

  2. I think Nine Adelaides new news set will be an old drop sheet behind a card table with ‘Nine News’ painted on it. They will have no intention of spending money or matching the east coast.
