Ruby Rose to front Ultimate School Musical: Fame

FOX8 picks up an entertainment reality format that starts a search for one lucky high school in Australia.

rubyroseFOX8 has picked up the rights to UK format Ultimate School Musical, which sees features ordinary teenagers from a school attempting to put on a music production to a professional standard in just six weeks.

The Australian version will be produced by FremantleMedia Australia with Ruby Rose as host, to air in 2010.

The series is now on the hunt for an Australian school to be featured in the series. The students at the chosen school will feature stars from the 2010 national touring production of Fame: The Musical, as well as producer John Frost and Kelley Abbey. The stage production is currently auditioning for its debut in Melbourne next April.

In the finale the students will deliver a performance of Fame in front of their friends, family and a TV audience.

“I am so excited to be a part of this amazing series which will allow me to work with high school students in a positive way and help create an opportunity for them to build their confidence and achieve the goals they never thought possible,” said Ruby Rose.

“My time at school was pretty turbulent and challenging. I welcome this opportunity to give students from all walks of life the chance to be a part of something really special and I will be there to help and mentor them all the way through.”

As well as the UK and Australia, the format is in production or development in 12 countries, including Denmark, France, Italy, Sweden, Netherlands and Portugal as well as Spain, New Zealand, Norway and Finland. Discussions are also ongoing with Canada and South Africa.
