Sam Chisholm’s party poopers

At yesterday's 70th birthday party for former Nine boss Sam Chisholm, media heavyweights James Packer and David Leckie reportedly faced off.

sam-chisholmAt yesterday’s 70th birthday party for former Nine boss Sam Chisholm, media heavyweights James Packer and David Leckie reportedly faced off.

Seven CEO, a one-time executive at Nine during the ‘Packer era’, approached Mr Packer to shake hands but is said to have received a “f*** off” in reply.

Packer is furious with television reports on Seven maligning him, including a recent story on his Macau Casino.

“He is sick of Leckie fronting him warmly at private social gatherings when publicly his network keeps taking shots at him,” one source told the Daily Telegraph.

But Seven spokesman Simon Francis last night said only: “I understand James made a series of observations to David.”

Oddly the incident follows a temporary truce reached last month between Packer and Kerry Stokes in the battle for Consolidated Media’s assets. Ryan Stokes and Peter Gammell even joined the CMH board.

Guest of honour Sam Chisholm admitted he didn’t expect to see the 70th milestone after he was saved by a double lung transplant in 2003. Slightly more important than a few bruised egos.

Updated: Guests including broadcasters Jana Wendt and Liz Hayes, News Ltd CEO John Hartigan, radio stars Alan Jones, John Laws and Ray Hadley, former NSW premier Neville Wran and Daryl Somers were witnesses to Packer’s stinging attack on his former friend and mentor.

Packer was said to be fed up with constant sniping by Today Tonight.

Packer told Leckie he knows he’s “fair game” if he’s done anything wrong but denied he deserved the attacks.

  1. Then I guess Jamie, sorry “James”, won’t like the ABC after next week’s “4 Corners”. Don’t forget Jamie, dad sacked Leckie. Leckie didn’t just leave Nine and go to Seven.

  2. This is why there will be continual failings in TV as they are run by ridiculous children… Join a political party if you want to play school yard games and leave the TV industry alone!
