Tropscore search for new composer

Usually talent searches are for performers and models, but MAX wants to find the next big thing in film scoring.

Sheet_MusicUsually talent searches are for performers and models, occasionally filmmakers or writers, but MAX has joined with Tropfest to find the next big thing in film scoring.

This national competition celebrates the union of music and film and provides a creative platform for musicians and composers.

The second Tropscore competition is open to experienced and amateur musicians, composers, bands and artists of all ages. The winner will have the opportunity to: perform their score at Movie Extra Tropfest 2010, perform live on MAX, and have their composition included on the 2010 Movie Extra Tropfest Finalist DVD.

They will also win a Gibson prize package, a one year membership for the Australian Guild of Screen
Composers.

“Music has played a vital role in film for over 100 years. From its early days of live scores accompanying silent films, long before the introduction of dialogue in film, music has played a key part in enhancing the fimmakers’ story,” said Tropfest‘s John Polson.

Shaun James, General Manager, XYZnetworks Music Channels said, “It’s a fantastic opportunity to profile established and emerging musicians, while offering another outlet for them to get their work heard by the film and music industries. MAX is a great supporter of musicians and believes in the importance of recognising their significant contribution to film.”

Entrants must create an original musical score or synch for a three minute short film that has been produced by emerging director Sam Curtain. Entries close Thursday 14 January 2010.
