7TWO is on the air

Australia officially has a new television channel as Seven's new entertainment-based digital channel 7TWO hits the air.

7twoAustralia officially has a new television channel: 7TWO.

Seven’s new digital channel hit screens at 12pm today beginning with a one minute countdown, followed by an animation of 7’s mascot, a Tom Williams preview promo, the “It’s Time” theme song, a music clip from Hugh Sheridan, and a sneak peek of this week’s Packed to the Rafters wedding episode. In the switch from its promo loops to on air it was also preceded by a black screen.

7a7TWO’s first full programme is Michael Jackson: His Latest Televised Concert, followed by movies and episodes of Scrubs. An advertistement for This is It was the first advertisement followed by a Sony CD ad for Jessica Mauboy and Harvey Norman.

As the last of the commercial network’s digital channels to arrive, it is a broad entertainment channel offering themed nights of movies, action, mystery, lifestyle and more.

7bIt’s key attractions will be first run episodes of Ugly Betty, Heroes and next year Lost and 24.

The channel will be rated by OzTAM from today, giving Seven a nice boost to its ratings figures.

It is due to be added to Foxtel cable from November 24th, but so far Prime Television is yet to declare a start date. Viewers in those markets will likely be behind key episodes of some series that begin this week.

The channel is already enjoying cross-promotion on Seven.

  1. Well there is just another eason why Australia has the highest per capita bit torrent downloaders. Gee maybe one day FTA channels will wake up and give some credit to its viewers, but by then it will be too late because we will have already seen the shows streamed from the USA etc. Good luck Foxtel and Austar, I dont even know why you bother to talk to these FTA stations and rebroadcast them, let them die a natural death

  2. After making many calls today, I have just been told that Prime have been absolutely swamped with complaints right across the country and have now been “motivated” into action. They are about to put out a press release of some sort regarding 7TWO and Prime. So, hopefully, some answers regarding this total schemozzle for regional viewers will be forthcoming today.

  3. This is just great.
I have been holding off downloading StarGate Atlantis hoping it would come back.
It does, but unfortunately I live about 100 km from Melbourne, so I am a second class citizen.
    Screw you Prime.

  4. @Simon.

SC Tasmania made the announcement that 7TWO would be coming to Tassie on their 6 pm bulletin of the day that 7TWO was announced.

Joe ( what ever her name is) announced it . I watched it.

  5. What a good start for a new tv channel,a Michael Jackson concert,it seems their line up is not bad i am so glad that seven executives decided to start it in November and not in February as now us FTA viewers will have something decent to watch over the summer period.

  6. The NT News incorrectly reported that Alice Springs will get 7TWO via SCTV Central.

” … and SCTV would follow a month later. But Alice Springs will now get the new digital channel via SCTV Central.”

This quote shows they have incorrectly used the word “now” instead of “not”. It makes no sense for 7TWO to launch in a market like Alice Springs which doesn’t even have digital commercial services.

  7. just continuing with the bitching about prime.. i thought id add my bit..

Why is prime not showing this channel in wagga!! And every where else that prime looks after (if you can even say that) they show 7hd with no prime branding, why are they going to take another 2 months just to attempt to rebrand this channel when there is no need to!!!

now they have started to localise GO! in regional areas- that screws it over enough already, every time an add breaks comes on GO! in wagga stops half way through an add break and shows adds that are exactly the same as the adds we saw before this breakaway…

sometimes i dont understand why we have regional television, why cant there just be the main metro channels, broadcast everywhere, and just have breakaway news like the goldcoast does… it just doesn’t make sense.

  8. Ridiculous it doesn’t launch on all platforms in all regions at once. If they’ve got any sense though, they should run catch-up nights of the big shows once it’s up and running everywhere.

  9. @Ryano – “socialist country folk”? I live on the Central Coast (NSW), and only get Prime because I can’t pick up Seven from here. I don’t consider the Central Coast to be “country”, or myself to be “country folk”. But yes, I do feel that I am entitled to the same TV services that Sydney has, but I unfortunately miss out on.

  10. I am so glad 7TWO has commenced (here in Brisbane). That “It’s Time” song really is annoying – so too was Tom Williams entering those doors of the completed ‘7TWO house’ (Tom is so fake). Now to look forward to a new channel. I feel sorry for those who are in the Prime viewing area. At least the Gold Coast can turn to 7TWO out of Brisbane.

  11. @Brenton

    You are lucky.
7QLD is part of Channel 7. Prime and GWN and others are not. Thats a question did GWN launch 7TWO today?

I am not going to write anymore because i am furious with Prime and i dont want to say anything that might offend people here.

  12. This really frustrates me, living in a Prime area I have to wait while other states are already enjoying it, Whats with the television segregation anyway?

I know you’re probably tired of these comments but its really ridiculous.

  13. David,

Tasmania and Darwin are certainites to get 7 Two from early December, but because SCTV central is not yet in digital, 7Two is unlikely to be beamed in Alice springs until SCTV Central converts to digital. Currently the Darwin area is the only area so far in the Northern Territory to receive digital channels from commerical stations, and as far as I am aware SCTV Central and Imparja are unlikely to convert to digital until close to the changeover date in either 2012 or 2013. ABC & SBS do transmit in digital format to towns like Alice springs, Katherine and Mount isa as well as Darwin. I hope I have explained it more clearly and clarify the situation.

  14. They should have had the black screen saying “it’s time 7two” all week, an not shown the song bit till 12 today, then it would have sounded new.

The picture quality is quite good here in Perth, initially when it first started showing the promo loop a few days back it was poor.

I am looking forward to seeing coronation street, shortland street , reaper and a few other shows.

Once ten launches their third channel all the networks will have a dumping ground for programs that didn’t rate well !

  15. I’m in a Prime area. I agree with all comments below. Media in this country is a joke!!
Why can’t the Government intervene here. Oh, I forgot, they are a joke too.

  16. I was so looking forward to this new station starting up in regional vic, not a word from Prime! A lot of shows I really wanted to watch. Not going to happen now – so its back to the internet…
