Dateline in Copenhagen

George Negus is in Copenhagen ahead of the climate change summit for Dateline's season final.

GN-on-Dateline-setSunday night’s Dateline will end with George Negus in Copenhagen to ask ‘Can the global climate change summit in Copenhagen save the planet – or will the talkfest become a load of political hot air’

He will interview Connie Hedegaard, Denmark’s Minister for Climate Change and Energy, who will facilitate the summit  in a little over two weeks time.

Negus has spent several days on the island of Samso where the locals have reduced their carbon footprint by an astonishing 140%. It now generates enough of its power through wind turbines, bio- mass and solar power to sell back to the national power grid.

Meanwhile reporter Amos Roberts travels to India for the developing world’s perspective. As an emerging superpower with more than one billion people, India’s commitments on carbon emissions could shape the global response.

However, Roberts finds the Indians are indignant at being asked to commit to strict emission targets when Western nations have long been responsible for the bulk of the world’s pollution.

It airs 8:30pm Sunday on SBS ONE.
