Dec 11: Last day for David & Kim?

While TEN readies "a new show" will David and Kim get a chance to say goodbye?

9amFriday 11th December could well be the last day for 9am with David and Kim as we know it.

From Monday December 14th, it moves into its summer mode, which is its annual highlights clips. This may involve new links recorded by Kim Watkins and possibly David Reyne.

But as Reyne has said he is moving on at the end of the year, the 11th of December could be the show’s last true hurrah.

TEN is yet to reveal its plans for the timeslot.

Last week Programming Chief David Mott told Mediaweek on the Sky News Business Channel, “There will be a new show. We’re about to announce it before Christmas.

“One of the things about that timeslot is we don’t have the benefit of a lead-in. We have made a strategic decision to move in another area in terms of mornings, or certainly breakfast.

“So what we have come up with I think is a very strong alternative to the other shows, and we’ll be announcing that in a couple of weeks.”

There have been unconfirmed imdustry rumours that Watkins and a Producer have already been given notice.

Certainly if the show is not continuing in its present form a statement would be appropriate to allow the show a proper send-off to viewers.

Mott also told Mediaweek that Junior Masterchef would follow the Commonwealth Games.

  1. The only other option I see is Ten moving the preschool program to 10:30am, while Totally Wild would serve out 2010 at 6:30am after a truncated Ten Early News, to allow a earlier start.

Thus it would allow 9am to become ‘Til Ten (adopting the “Til Ten” brand of 20 years ago) again (this time running from 8:30am to 10am), with Ten picking up a format for a mid-morning gameshow for 10am-10:30am slot.

The other drastic change would be Toasted TV becoming a live program styled on Seven’s late 1990’s “Agro-replacement” The Big Breakfast (which incorporated news, and the format can be tinkered so no ads air during cartoons), to better compete with Sunrise/Today and most importantly, ABC3’s Studio 3.

  2. Given what transpired at Nine i would imagine that would be unlikely,I hope relationships at Seven are still good because i truly believe Kim Watkins to be the most talented multi talented Female (perhaps either gender) presenter on Australian Television.
Having been announced as a fill in for Carrie Bickmore i would like to see her stay at Ten albeit in a more productive roll.
For God sakes this Girl can race cars, plays golf like a pro and is good to look at,why is she not hosting a Sports show.
Mathew Johns and Kim Watkins, now there’s an idea, wide demographic based in Sydney,Ten would kick ass with this if done properly.

  3. What about trying to get in before 9am and pull viewers with a show that crosses over the two shows on the other networks? Start it at 8am and go until 10am instead. Just a thought…

  4. If true – it’s a shame that Watkins will be leaving TEN – she is terrific on 9am and her appearances on 7pm Project.

Well looks like another former 9 personality will probably go back to where they came from.

  5. Mott says they are moving in another area in terms of “breakast”.
9am is hardly breakfast. 7am is. So would this mean they have a new show to go up against Sunrise and Today?

It sounds like Mott acknowledges the lead in is what kills Tens 9am slot. So he seems to acknowldege there is no point having a show at 9am with no lead in. That combined with the breakfast comment leads me to think Ten will go with some sort of format 6am – 10am. Running breakfast and mining timeslots.
