Murphy Brown reunion

Candice Bergen and the former cast of Murphy Brown recently sat down to reminisce about the good ol' days.

murphy-brownThe former cast of Murphy Brown, Candice Bergen, Charles Kimbrough, Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto and Grant Shaud recently sat down to chat with Harry Smith from CBS’ The Early Show.

The five reminisced about the hit sitcom which ran for ten years and 247 episodes.

Bergen says she wasn’t first choice for the series, which was Heather Locklear, but creator Diane English went in to bat for her.

Faith Ford remembers reams of dialogue the cast had to memorise. “They don’t do that anymore,” she says.

They also recall the moment the show commented on Vice President Dan Quayle’s speech in which he criticised Brown‘s character for being a single mother, and not having a male figure in her family. It caused a storm during the 1980s.

You can watch a clip here -but you will annoyingly have to sit through an ad first, grrr….

  1. okay just shoot me for having any sort of opinion, what i am trying to say in my opinion murphy brown was absolute crap is that okay with you dodge, or is it only your opinion counts, or am i overeacting

  2. Loved this show when it aired on Nine in the ’90s. Favourite episode was Murphy’s baby shower where all the morning news gals made a cameo- Katie Couric, Faith Daniels (Today newsreader), Paula Zahn (CBS This Morning), Mary Alice Williams (Sunday Today) and Joan Lundon (GMA) all on Murphy’s living room set trying to act . Murphy unwraps Katie’s present only to discover golf shoes and Katie delivers the line: “Right now Bryant Gumbel is at his birthday party unwrapping a breast pump”. It’s weird how the lines between fact and fiction blurred at that time with the controversy over that storyline.

Can anyone remember why Grant Shaud left the series? Remember Lily Tomlin playing the EP in later eps.

  3. Frankie – Give you a rest? Sorry, did someone force you to watch that clip? A lot of us like to reminisce, and like the 80s, and like Murphy Brown. Major over reaction mate

  4. thanks for posting this – great to see the actors so many years later. Shame that Robert Pastorelli (Eldon) and Pat Corley (Phil) are no longer alive. I always thought that Grant Shaud should have been Emmy nominated – he was superb and unique as miles silverberg. The thing about Candice Bergen is she seems to be aging naturally – such a beauty, so talented. Great show, and a trip down memory lane – thanks.

  5. please give us or me a rest its old hat enuogh is too much why bother that era is well and truly done and dusted, is because we are ozzies and they try that crap , because we puy up with anything why for gods sake !!!!
