Ultimate School Musical picks winning school

Ruby Rose told students at Essendon Keilor College in Melbourne yesterday they would be starring in her new FOX8 series.

rrEssendon Keilor College in Melbourne has been named as the lucky school to star in Ultimate School Musical: Fame, after a national call for applications.

Students from Years 7 to 12 will be dancing, singing and acting through their school holidays with some mentoring from professionals from the touring production of the Fame stage musical. Based on an international format, the series will culminate in a performance of the musical.

Host Ruby Rose said: “Choosing the winning school was a really hard decision because so many were worthy. Ultimately Essendon Keilor College was chosen because they have a strong commitment to performing arts and proved to our producers they had the enthusiasm needed to keep focus, as well as provide the access and facilities required to produce a television series.”

And apologies to all those schools who don’t have a respectable performing arts or media set-up…

Essendon Keilor College principal David Adamson said: “Our kids are hard-working and come from vastly different cultural backgrounds – it’s a big melting pot of communities. I know they will all embrace this opportunity and work extremely hard to show the rest of Australia what can be achieved when you put your spirit and mind to something.”

The 10-part series will premiere on FOX8 in 2010.
