Showcase continues to prove it has the pick of the crop in Pay TV offerings with The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency to screen in January.
Based on the best-selling novels by Alexander McCall Smith, this is the first major Film/TV project to be shot entirely on location in Botswana. The series is created by two of the best: Anthony Minghella and Richard Curtis. It is produced by the late Sydney Pollack, plus Timothy Bricknell and Amy Moore.
As a young girl growing up in the African nation of Botswana, Precious Ramotswe (Jill Scott) was encouraged by her father to follow her dreams, no matter what. Now in her mid-30s, Precious is doing just that, embarking on an improbable career that utilises her unique gifts of inquisition and intuition to benefit those who need help the most.
According to Precious Ramotswe, the owner of Botswana’s No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, “There is no problem so great it cannot be solved by a cup of bush tea.” Growing up in the country, Precious learned a great many things from her father: to rely on her wits, patience and memory, and most importantly, to follow her dreams, no matter what. And so, for her beloved country of Botswana, Africa and its people, Precious has started her detective career in Gaborone determined to do good with the time that God has been given her.
The 7 part series premieres 8:30pm Wednesday January 6th.

Loved the books loved the 7 part series hope their is more to come
Fantastic series, especially in HD, but it’s amazing the ABC didn’t get it.
The whole season came out on region 1 DVD over 2 months ago, so you don’t have to get Foxtel to see it. The series aired overseas 9 months ago and it doesn’t look like a 2nd season is on the cards.
I love this series of books, so look forward to watching this.
I love love love Jill Scott. Unfortunately this show is waaaaaaay too slow (judging by the first episode only). Hopefully though it will get enough interest to get Jill out here and promote it and maybe tour at the same time.
Wonderful books, I’ve been keeping an eye out for the air date, thanks for the heads up :o)
David, you say 7 part series? Does this mean it will start with the movie?
I’m really looking forward to this. Great series.
