Amen to classic comedies

Seven finishes first in Week 51 with a Vicar of Dibley repeat as the week's top show. Only one more week before Timeshifting begins.

vcdThe Seven Network has won another week in summer’s non-ratings week.

It took out Week 51 with a 29.8% share over Nine’s 28.1% and TEN’s 18.4%.

The ABC had 16.9% and SBS 6.8%.

Top show for the week was Seven’s The Vicar of Dibley Christmas Special with 1.28m viewers.

Seven finished first in all cities except Melbourne, where Nine won.

Seven also won Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Nine took Wednesday and Friday with both networks tieing for Tuesday.

Only one week remains until OzTAM begins adding Timeshifting to its ratings surveys.

  1. I switched over. The show was running during tea time with references to ‘minge’ munching and other lesbian references. Some character at a meeting wanted a ‘stripper’ followed by hilarious (not) reference that Gabrielle “goes down”. What complete and utter crap for a Christmas show!

  2. Well said tassie devil. It continues to amaze me that Seven regularly take out the top gong in ratings, and yet I struggle to come up with five digits worth of viewable, let alone top notch, shows on their schedule, ratings period or non. Of course one or two of those viewable programs have been re-assigned to 7Two (which being a poor lowly Prime viewer I’m yet to see), leaving even less to find attractive in Seven’s offerings. I too must be out of touch with the masses – or yet to be brainwashed into lapping up commercial trash without question. Thankfully the ABC, in its now various and sundry guises, continues to make inroads.

  3. @Jason, good point. I often suspect that many of Seven’s viewers, including some of The Vicar Of Dibley’s 1.28m, don’t even take notice much of the time what’s on the other channels. They are devoted (and dare I say brainwashed) enough to just assume that whatever’s on Seven is worth watching, explaining the ratings for shows like Gary Unmarried, Whacked Out Sports, Deal Or No Deal and all the factuals. And it’s these types of people who are responsible for the ABC and SBS’s undeserved lack of viewers, assuming that nothing interesting is ever on the ABC and SBS and all the good shows are found on the commercial networks, in particular Seven.

  4. Yet another show taken by Seven Network from the ABC where it had unflattering ratings. Just wait for Seven to take Compass from the ABC and turn it into a ratings hit. But it’s a shame that it takes a commercial network to broadcast a show before it gets the recognition it deserves. I reckon half of the viewers would not have realised that it used to be on the ABC for quite some time.

  5. Ten is far behind the other networks, a long way behind Nine. Wouldn’t be surprised if ABC started to lose more of the gap and eventually took third place.

  6. great to see the vicar of dibley back on even though its been repeated a few times before i think it gets better every time it is aired i love it keep it coming with the vicar specials 7.

  7. Vicar of Dibley Christmas Special is like 3 years old! How can that be the highest rated show?? Very low percentage for TEN. I have not seen any show in full FTA since ratings period ended, there is nothing that great.
