Gone: Numb3rs, Jamie Oliver, Bumped: Futurama, White Collar.

Sweeping changes to TEN's summer line-up, also affecting Supernatural, Stargate Universe, NCIS, Malcolm in the Middle and Rules of Engagement.

Numb3rsMajor changes to TEN’s summer line-up.

Monday night’s Futurama to be replaced by Rules of Engagement, now to air in the Wednesday animation line up at 8pm where it was playing in repeat.

Supernatural is off next Monday to allow the double episode premiere of Stargate Universe at 8:30pm.

White Collar moves to 9:30pm replaced by a repeat of NCIS. So that means Numb3rs is out.

…oh and Jamie’s Family Christmas? The one where he was effectively going to be cooking turkey in January? That’s gone too. (Quote: “TEN will surely come to their senses on this daft idea.”)

There’s a double Malcolm in the Middle for the week of December 28 when The 7PM Project takes a week off.

  1. I agree with you Jacket. Myself and several of my workmates all Love Supernatural and watch it on Channel 10 too. I have never in my life met anyone who has a ratings meter box! (Or knows anyone who has) They’re a load of CR*P as far as I’m concerned because I don’t know where they find these people who seem to not like my fav shows and like ones I don’t. How is it that this small percentage of the population can be responsible for the fates of shows for everyone? The only way the ratings would be fair is for everyone to have said box (that in my case also takes into account what you record – as that’s about 90% of what I watch).

I have also been enjoying White Collar but don’t care about the timeslot seeing as I have to tape everything at nights anyway as I work ’til midnight weeknights.

To Vic: I have watched Neighbours since the very first year (1985 – and it’s been my favourite show ever since) and I also watch 7pm every night. I find it’s usually quite enjoyable, but I wouldn’t be devastated if it were gone.

As for “lead-in shows”. I have 2 VCRs taping every night for all the shows I watch. Channel 10, 9, 7 and occasionally SBS or ABC as well. I tape specifically what I want to watch. Sometimes I need to get a friend to tape shows for me if there’s 3 shows on at the same time I want to watch. I don’t have any room or inclination to tape shows just because they happen to follow something else I watch.

  2. The Thing is if they were to drop 7pm Project Ten would have to go back to the drawing board regarding replacements.
Seinfeld, Will and Grace, friends, everyone loves raymond amongst many other things have been done to death.
Roseanne/Facts of Life/Mash Reruns are all to old to even consider.
buying temptation of nine would be another option but that means the nine viewers are stuck with the charlie sheen marathons.

  3. Ten is an endlessly annoying, stupid channel. They get the shows I want to watch, and then shaft them mercilessly.

I’m enjoying White Collar. I love Supernatural and will probably end up just buying the season direct from the US so I can watch it (thanks to no region encoding on DVD players here).

I’d have watched the Jamie cooking thing as there’s endless ways to ruin a turkey but getting it right means happy eaters.

I don’t watch the Murder Franchise shows.

  4. Re: Bereft Skerrick : I feel very sorry for you that you are not tolerant enough to allow others to have and voice their views about their fav TV shows without feeling the need to berate them.. For your information all my ‘Supernatural’ friends do watch the show when it airs in Oz….but unfortunately if we do not have one of the ‘magic’ survey boxes it does not help the ratings!!!!
There are many shows I do not enjoy watching…but would never feel the need to put down people who do enjoy them …. the fact that we are all different is what makes this world a great place. Please allow others their opinion.

  5. Surprised at all of the Supernatural whingers. If you all came out in force and watched it when it was screened on TV, it would not have been axed/moved/relegated in the first place. There are inifintely more (and better) shows in the Universe than Supernatural.

As for Stargate Universe, Mr Skerrick is awfully excited as it’s the only show he watches all week.

  6. Very disappointed with the sudden change of Supernatural to a double of Stargate Universe especially since it was on for such a long hiatus and was meant to air earlier on before they extended that hiatus.
I also think White Collar should be in its usual time slot of 8.30 and the repeat of NCIS should be on at 9.30

  7. Disappointing for Supernatural. As if the hiatus in the US is not killing me enough, now we have a week hiatus here. i can’t take anymore Supernatural hiatusus. And no, i have no life 🙂

  8. @Neon Kitten: That’s not what the industry research suggests. Mind you, if there’s a drastic switch in genres between programs then it’s less likely the viewer will stay around, but if it’s something along the same lines, then people are more likely to stay on the same channel. Somewhat along the same lines would be having something like the 7pm Project following a serial or something like that. It’s tepid enough that you don’t really register it as being a drastic change, so you’re not negatively stimulated enough to change the channel.

Mind you, if there’s a program on another channel that you’re really interested in watching, then yeah, you’ll switch. For the most part, however, television viewers are creatures of habit.

  9. Hmm, well who ever said that summer ratings didn’t matter lied.
I personally think it is a shame that Repeats have to take the place of new first run shows. That just cements the network in relying on only a limited palate of shows.
I have been enjoying White Collar, maybe it will rate better at 9.30pm against the struggling Amazing Race (although next week is the Final). We shall see. Just keep airing the show and please don’t take it off, there isn’t much I am watching on TV atm!

  10. i dont care when you put numb3rs on, just put it on channel ten. there should also be a rule that the dvd of series can be released 6 months after it has been shown in america.

  11. Numb3rs is looking like getting the chop from CBS so it may not fall into a prime time slot again! I think 10 should rearange their animation time slots, perhaps put Cleveland on at 1:30am, bloody stupid Family Guy style lowbrow comedy I prefer a little more wit like Futurama (or American Dad!) has.

  12. I know Supernatuarl fans have been spoilt the last few weeks having double episodes but I wish TEN would leave at least one episode on air this week…… it is the only show on TV I make sure I see.(even though I have seen all the eps from their US airing). and Supernatural fans have waited patiently for season 5 to air on Aussie TV….

  13. @Alex T, Vic: surely the archaic concept of shows “leading viewers in to the night” is completely irrelevant these days? Nobody I know turns on the TV and leaves it on the same channel all night.

  14. So why not just move Jamie to the logical pre-Christmas slots instead of scrapping it altogether? I know the America show didn’t rate all that well, but in non-ratings period surely some non-repeat shows would do a bit better!

  15. @Alex T: You make very good points. My view of it is that the way 7pm is going, it will never be close to a “hit” (that said, the move to one hour episodes did seem to do it some good, but we’ll see for sure once ratings start up again). If Ten was serious about their late night block (which I believe is an area that Aussie networks could have some success in), then I think realistically they could garner an audience that could make the move worthwhile. I almost feel ashamed to say it, but hell, do a Jay Leno and put the show at 10pm. It’s late, but early enough that it could get a decent lead-in from a strong 9pm show. I think at this point it’s safe to say that the people who watch Neighbours aren’t really interested in watching 7pm. Sure, it would lose a fair few viewers in the later slot, but you’d probably also see some better demographics tuning into the show (I’m not necessarily talking about 18-39, but rather, higher income viewers).

As it is right now, personally, I see the continuation of 7pm as being purely due to a lack of alternatives. I honestly can’t see the show ever being more than a costly experiment gone wrong.
