Oslo 2010: Share the Moment

The theme and imagery for Eurovision 2010, to be staged in Norway, have been announced.

sharethemomentIt’s still over five months away but already there is movement on Eurovision 2010.

The theme and imagery have been announced by the ESC for the annual event to be staged in Oslo, Norway (you remember, that kid with the violin won?).

This time they have gone with coloured spheres which apparently represent a gathering people and the diversity of emotions surrounding the contest. If you think it just looks like a bunch of bubbles you’re not alone…pass me a Coke.

“We want to share the Eurovision Song Contest, rather than just broadcast it,” Hasse Lindmo, TV-producer of the contest for NRK. “One particular thing that makes the Eurovision Song Contest such a unique event is the fact that it’s the only time of the year in Europe that some 125 million people are doing exactly the same thing, at exactly the same time. Whether you’re in Iceland or in Armenia, in Portugal or in Finland. Or here in Oslo,” Lindmo explained. “What do some 125 million people look like? That was one of our main questions.”

Oslo is just a tad excited about being host city. The Executive Supervisor Svante Stockselius was gushing over their preparations.

“I never saw a host broadcaster being this well prepared at this time of the year,” he said.

SBS will again host the event with Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang set to commentate the Australian broadcast in late May.

  1. @Sam: Being a part of Europe isn’t necessarily a pre-requisite for entry (e.g. Israel) but you do need to be a member country of the European Broadcasting Union, which Australia isn’t. Although if I recall correctly, ABC, SBS and Free TV Australia are associate members of the EBU.

  2. I had feared these two might be back. I love Julia in her RockWiz role, but I thought her and Sams commentary was quite lacklustre, they almost seemed bored at times. If we’re going to send our own commentary team, I’d at least like them to be informed and to value-add, rather than just talk dribble. And those interviews they did… were a bit embarrassing. Still, I’m glad SBS has continued to support the ESC. And good to hear the Junior contest will get an airing, Laura from Belgium was fantastic!

I have a question though, why are some people saying that Australia could be part of this in the future. We are not part of Europe (thank God)! How does that work?
