Vivacious Poh Ling Yeow’s debut series Poh’s Kitchen begins soon on ABC1.

Yeow has enjoyed great success since becoming MasterChef runner-up, including a mentorship from Curtis Stone, fronting advertisements, two cookbook deals and her own ABC series. She is one of the few reality contestants in Australia to be given the plum job of hosting her own show.

She is joined regularly by leading chefs in this new series, which ffectively takes the place of The Cook and the Chef.

A successful artist, Poh is only a recent convert to cooking but she’s taken to it like a duck to water, using her great natural aptitude and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.

Some people find cooking quite stressful and a chore to be avoided at all costs – not Poh! For Poh, cooking is all about nurturing and sharing, and she loves inviting friends into her kitchen to help refine her unique cooking style. As she says “I love to experiment but you have to know the rules before you can bend them”. And who better to help with the rules than Australia’s best cooks and chefs.

This week, Poh catches up with Emmanuel Mollois, a pastry chef trained in Paris who proudly carries forward the torch of tradition. Emmanuel is highly amused by Poh’s ‘wild’ approach as they both prepare delicious desserts they remember loving as kids in Malaysia and France.

Poh shows Emmanuel a chiffon cake which is popular throughout SE Asia. In Poh style, she adapts the recipe for modern Australia and creates an orange chiffon cake with chocolate ganache icing and hazelnuts: a unique creation.

Emmanuel loves the culture he grew up in and he keeps French culinary traditions alive by running a Parisian-style cafe and patisserie in Perth. As a child he adored almond croissants from the shop next to the cinema. Now he makes his own, and he’s kind enough to share his secrets – in Poh’s Kitchen.

It premieres 6:30pm Wednesday February 10 on ABC1.

  2. I agree with Shelley this show deserves to be programmed at a much better time than 6.30pm. Why not put her on in primetime on ABC2 then replay at a later stage on ABC1 on a Saturday afternoon or something?

  3. Will be happy to tune in and watch. Never saw her on MC, but she’s got a great natured way about her from all the footage I’ve seen… Also good to see the CATC timeslot revived.

  5. I didn’t get the fascination with Poh during Masterchef and the special treatment she received from the judges was embarrassing. Her cooking ability was mediocre at best and her performance in the final where she disregarded the recipe showed a level of arrogance I am still shaking my head over. We will not be watching.
