Forest Whitaker looks set to star in the spin-off of Criminal Minds.
The new series revolves around a new group of profilers who work outside the FBI bureaucracy.
Whitaker will play the squad leader Cooper, described as dynamic, mysterious, charming and a father figure to the rest of the team. He is a former star profiler in the Behavioral Unit who has been off the radar for the past eight years.
Whitaker, who had a recurring role in ER and The Shield, is in final negotiations for the role and is expected to get a producing credit.
The spin-off series will be introduced via an episode of Criminal Minds.
The original series returns to Seven next week.

@alfagirl, but i still have the right to say noooooooooooo to this over used format, lol
@steven g: No I guess I didn’t make a point. I get a bit annoyed when people complain about types of programmes cop, soaps, reality etc because there is an audience for everything and some us might be excited to see a quality actor in a crime show. So your “nooooooooooooooo” is for a lot of other people a big “yesssssssssss!!”
“un-orginal idea” + 1
TEN and Nine would never have given up Criminal Minds. It is the ABC Studio’s deal which gives it to Seven regardless.
This is great news on the spin off. Forest is a fantastic actor and i cant wait to see how they do this. As long as it doesnt end up like CSI: Miami and NCIS: LA where everyone goes orange.
@alfagirl, no they are not and your point about the new cop show was ????
@ steven g: Is someone chaining you to the couch and forcing you to watch??
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, another f’n cop show !
Ok I always thought Criminal Minds was produced in house (CBS) and that ten or nine originally didn’t want the series so it went to Seven.
@ Justin.
It’s a a ABC studios, The Mark Gordon Co and CBS studios production (the same as Criminal Minds). It should end up on Seven as they have the abc studios deal.
If this got the go ahead would it go to ten or seven?
Interesting addition. Look forward to see how this spin off turns out (I love the original), I just hope it’s got a few points of difference.
