Returning: Lost

Updated: 7TWO is fastracking Lost just a week after its US season premiere.

Yes, it’s back.

Lost returns to air on 7TWO on Wednesday February 10th, fastracked just a week after its return in the US.

The show returns with a two hour season premiere at 9:30pm, preceded by the special Lost: The Final Chapter at 8:30pm.

Hold on for the ride of your lives….

Updated: Part 1 will also air on Seven at 11:30pm.

And while we’re on the subject, check out these cool clips of Lost stars in other shows and ads earlier in their careers.

  1. Ok, what am I missing? 7TWO is showing parts 1&2 and 7HD is only showing Part1… so where is Part2 for 7HD? A different night? And for those on analogue, does this mean they miss out on part2? I don’t get why Seven have this strange split across 7TWO and 7/7HD? I love (I mean Lllooove) that it is in HD, this is one show that looks superb on 7HD (please SevenHD, I beg you to not put upscaled crud on), so at least this will happen, but should I wait for a couple of nights to see if Part2 is coming up!?!? Argh, confused.

    1. You are not missing anything -except Part 2 on 7TWO. I have raised this issue with Seven, who advised that 12:30 was too late to start Part 2. It will air a week later, effectively putting the episode behind 7TWO.

  2. Those pointing out that ABC in America may skip a week allowing 7 to catch up have made me realise the obvious – there’s potentially nothing stopping 7 screening a double-episode on Feb 17 as well and bringing us to within hours of the US, thus enabling them to start in ratings season yet fast-track as well.

Come on, Seven!! You can do it! 🙂

(As for ABC skipping a week, that looks unlikely unfortunately. An uninterrupted run would now conclude on May 18, which is too close to the end of their ratings period as it is to be pushed back a week later, let alone the fact that they haven’t been able to show the last two seasons uninterrupted as they publicly hoped).

  3. I understand people who feel that week is short time to wait, but I completely agree with JJR, that for active fans who want to participate in international conversations and anaylsis of the plot to wait a week and actual avoid spoilers is pretty impossible, without basically avoiding the internet. Many of the general US entertainment sites promote photos and episodes on their main home page and spoil even small plot points.

I agree that the Lost fanbase, especially in it’s final season, shouldn’t have to wait a week, and if 7Two want to make the case to converse and woo a respectful fanbase (who do actually want to see good ratings ), then 24 / 48 hour delay in the most you can take.

Also, the idea the programming and marketing concerns might hold a week, besides supplying info to the TV Guides, are null and void. Aren’t Seven themsevles the ones who went ahead of the world with Flash Forward. Why isn’t Seven’s marketing team working with ABC’s marketing team for their promo activity?

  4. The issue with downloading a show like lost is, the internet is full of spoilers. It’s easy to go a day or two with out reading any, but if for some people, movie, film, tv, entertainment websites are part of their daily web reading. It gets too hard to avoid missing everything.

Let alone on top of that the extra enjoyment from a show like this partaking in discussions, reading speculation and all sorts of other things. That is simply not possible to do avoiding spoilers if you’re a week behind what everyone’s talking about.

One thing I have to say is, if lost is airing on tuesdays in the states this year, wednesday would be the day to fast track it. It is odd they’d delay a week. Maybe there’s a week off in the states coming up and so it’ll then be fast tracked by a few hours for most of the season.. maybe not… however it ensures many who would otherwise tune in, won’t be watching the first few episodes.

  5. To you people *still* saying a week is too long; the big difference between you & the Seven Network is they actually *pay* for their product while most of you do not!

If I was in any way connected to the production of Lost, I would hate every downloader that watched my show. You people aren’t “fans” of Lost, you’re just thieves.

  6. i think a lot of you guys are speaking a bit soon, at this point for all we know 7 may well be airing episodes within hours of the US airing in it’s 2nd week, if they are doing 3 episodes this week surely it’s not too much of a stretch of the imagination.

i am actually disapointed that they are airing episodes on normal 7. especially in metros. they really shouldn’t be doing any favours for people that don’t have digital. i hope it’s not a regular thing, making shows like this digital-exclusive is a great way of getting that digital penetration up.

also worth a note. last night 7 aired 3 episodes of desperate housewives in just over 2 hours. hopefully they can do the same with Lost otherwise that’s a pretty late finish.

@lewis, it’s probably because ratings don’t start until that week and with so few episodes, (especilly if they are going to do doubles) they didn’t want to waste any in non-ratings.

  7. It would be good if other networks repeated the digital channel programs on the main channel in the middle of night so we could at least get them in HD.

  8. Oh what a relief that people don’t have to download this after so many weeks of worrying whether or not it was going to be shown on 7. I don’t care that it’s being shown so late or that 7two viewers get to see the 2 hour premiere, i’m just happy that I get to watch it at all.

  9. Those saying, including David, that one week is still pretty fantastic are correct – it is, and I’m truly glad. It could have been a lot longer. But I think there’s still something to be said for this being so close, yet so far. The networks are concerned about losing viewers to illegal downloading. That’s why fast-tracking came about. And Lost is one of the most popular shows downloaded in that way. Speaking in TV industry terms rather than just as a viewer, taking a stand with Lost and fast-tracking within hours would send a powerful statement that There is No Excuse Anymore, especially since many tech-savvy downloaders would likely have DVRs and the iTunes release would appear the following morning as well.

I think Lost could be aired that quickly. Sky One in the UK are premiering season 6 on Feb 5, and the lowly Sci-Fi Channel on Foxtel broadcast Battlestar within about 5 hours last year, thanks to satellite. The means are there to do it, I’m sure. And they choose not to for what, ratings season starting the following Monday? Surely the innovation of using your second digital channel to its full advantage trumps that concern. The rest of the season will air in ratings season, after all.

Simultaneous international distribution of shows is the ultimate outcome of digital TV distribution, I believe, and fast-tracking in this manner would be bold of Seven and contributing to that development. I’d love to see them cancel that repeat movie and bring up the premiere, with an encore on Feb 10 before episode 3 for those who missed it. Not gonna happen, I know, but what a statement it would make if they did, or if they’d arranged that originally…

  10. Just so we’re clear, that last post from “Adam” is a different one from me

wow, sounds like i’m contradicting myself now. Lol.

    I wrote the first 2 posts from “Adam”… 😛

  11. Lost is the best show on tv and I can’t wait to watch the final season. The fact that it rates so poorly is one of life’s mysteries … like why so many people watch cricket.

  12. Certainly I’m not complaining that we get Lost 1 week after the US. That’s fine, and normal for Australia. But I don’t get why Seven is showing a movie on Feb 3 at 8.30, then showing Lost the next week. Is there some sort of delay in terms of getting the show from ABC, or is there a commitment to the movie they’ve scheduled? I would have thought they’d prefer to get it on as soon as they can to try to attract possible downloaders.

No complaints, though. Now it’s only 1 and a half weeks to go…

  13. my only criticism is as to why we have to wait until 9:30pm for the actual premiere??
couldn’t we perhaps have that special air on a separate night to make way for an 8:30pm premiere??
otherwise, i’d say 7two is the best thing channel 7 have ever done 🙂 well done

  14. I have been watching Lost from the start and am a massive fan.

Now that its on 7TWO I cannot watch it!

I live in Wollongong, an hour out of Sydney!

Why do I have to miss out

    **** So Unfair ****

  15. If the worst thing in your life is having to wait 8 days for Lost then I would say your life is pretty good and wonder how you would cope if something really terrible happened?

  16. Well its simple then isnt it. You stay away from anything Lost. I have done it in the past and can do it again. I feel Seven may have waited a week to make sure the show doesnt miss a week. You never know what might happen in America.

I really cant wait to see the final season of one of the greatest shows to come to television.

Also i am surprised that it will be on Seven at 11:30pm the same night. It means if i miss a bit which i wont but if i do it will be on there.

As for all you idiots saying its 8 days too long go jump off a cliff. If you cant handle 8 days there is something seriously wrong. Seven could have waited a month or more so be grateful.

  17. @Adam –

Whilst I agree that Lost being played within 8 days is a plus for regular shows, the reality is, in 2010, and given the Lost audience, an entire week, and then some, is a stretch for Lost fans to have _not_ read, heard or seen new episode content…

If this was HIMYM, CSI, or Big Bang, or some other show without such a long-arch storyline, then I would agree that an 8 day turn-around was a fantastic result… In the case of Lost, Seven are opting to delay the viewing for 8 days….

If they gave a s**t, they could play it one day after the US on 7TWO, and then a week later on Seven… By not doing so they are losing a significant potential audience due to alternative viewing methods… They have the option to lessen the BT factor, yet they still choose to shoot themselves in the foot….

    Hence my earlier comments

    1. 8 days qualifies as Fastracking in my book. Historically speaking, viewers would wait weeks or months for US shows. Networks also need at least some window to promote their product, especially in the case of dramas (less so for chat shows). Seven has brought Lost back to a primetime viewing via 7TWO, and it has slated it on Seven for those who don’t yet have the digital channel. Doing so also gives the show an HD broadcast. I would like to see Seven add the second hour to its schedule (as 7TWO has) but otherwise I think they deserve some cred. Even next day wouldn’t be enough for diehard Lost fans and we know it.
