Foxtel’s A-Z Search function on its EPG hasn’t been working properly for some time.

Some readers are even suggesting it hasn’t worked since it was added to the EPG last November.

A Foxtel spokesperson has told TV Tonight, “Foxtel is aware of this issue and is looking at resolving via an automatic software update in the coming weeks.”

Some other readers have also notes some drop out issues with Series Links.

If you have had any issues lately let’s hear it….

I had series links not recording about 2 weeks ago for a week but ok since then. i still don’t know why my iq tv guide is very slow to refresh. it seems like a step backwards since the new channels were added. maybe if they removed “isuggest” it would make it quicker. isuggest is a complete waste imo

I worked on the Foxtel helpdesk up until last week so I can happily report the A-Z search function hasn’t been working since back in October and the last time I spoke to a guy from the tech team in early January he said that “it hasn’t been working for the last three months and it won’t be working for the next three months.”

    So all I got to tell customer’s was that it was out, it’s likely to be out for a while, and no, sorry, you won’t be compensated.

  3. My A-Z search feature hasn’t worked since Foxtel added new channels. My series link has been dropping out lately as well and randomly not recording particular episodes of a series.

  4. It is problem with the epg in general when you get a synopsis of a program the title is cut off and when you set it to record is shows all of it in the synopsis when pressing the I button only sometimes this happens so it is not always the case but it does happen

  5. The Search has not worked for me since the november update. Its really anoying!!! And for one random day last week the EPG Stuffed up and all the coloured buttons were gone and would just be going through restarts but it fixed it self in 2 days at least.

No problem here,as i don’t use that function.To pay for those Box Office movies is a waste of money in my opinion,i always wait for them to screen on the Movie Channels,don’t have to wait to long.And as for series link i have never used it,i always use a different method.So you can say there are ways around these problems anyway

  7. the a-z function should just list each show once and then when you click on it it should say the different times it on, rather than listings a movie 7 cause it on 7 times that week.

  8. That series link dropout is really bugging me. I have had to travel for work and thought that when I came back I could sit back and watch the whole series…but no.

    Wednesday seems to be the black hole in my series link too.

  9. Series Links *have* definitely been a pain in the butt these past few weeks. Constantly re-setting them and re-booting my IQ2. Having to check for every show I record that the next one has automatically programmed in, and it’s been a coin toss lately as to whether it has or hasn’t. Other than that, I do heart my IQ2.

  10. Only experienced the series link drop out this week, very simple to fix though – just manually reboot the system and all your series link reappear within 5mins like they never disappeared in the first place.

    Never use the A-Z search function for programmes as the Online Guide is much quicker, however not having the A-Z listing working for BoxOffice (when it did prior to November) is annoying as is their occasional mistake in listing when movies are beginning on BoxOffice – eg. Adventureland commences January 27 according to the Foxtel magazine, but is nowhere to be found.

  11. The A-Z function has not worked since the software upgrade last November. Also, I had problems with the playback skipping sections and also the series link dropping out. Some recorded programs even froze on playback and I have to delete them. Foxtel advised it was a known fault in the IQ box, they would not be replacing it, and the way to fix it is to turn the power off at the wall for 10 mins to let the box cool down. Doesn’t skip anymore but series link still dropping out and some programs still freezing. Tired of having to turn if off at the wall every week..

  12. My series link has been very dodgy lately as well. Bloody nuiscance frankly. Also when watching a recorded program I sometimes get ‘Recording ended” before a show has finished and there is another 10 mins left. I have to go to my planner, go the end of the show, then rewind. Also ABC and 7 very choppy when recording.
    To be honest, things worked better 5 years ago!

  13. I thought I was going mad… yes my series link too has been having issues (for about 3 weeks now) so have had to do most of them again. What’s even more frustrating is that, within a few days of re doing them, the original series links appear again.

    A – Z has never worked for me either.

  14. a-z hasn’t worked for me either since the new channel launches in December, funny how foxtel are aware of it yet it has still be broken for the last 2 months. i’m sure it can’t be that hard to fix.

I just wish they would leave their early-90’s tech behind and bring out support for the US cablecard standard – then I could run it in a Windows 7 box under Media Centre, MythTV, or if TiVo Aus brought it out here a cablecard supporting TiVo. All of these make the IQ boxes look like decade old tech.

    Perhaps then I’d consider signing up with them again (for the 3rd time).

I was told by a Foxtel call centre agent late last year that this was deliberately disabled prior to the rollout of the new channels to conserve bandwidth because of the need to send software updates to so many set top boxes. At the time she suggested it would reappear early in the new year, which it hasn’t. Of course call centre agents are not always the best source of information about these types of things…

  17. My search function has never worked from the beginning and also the series link has been dropping out randomly in my household . It is quite frustrating especially the series link.

  18. My series links have been dropping out every Wednesday for the last few weeks. It is very annoying and really defeats the purpose of series link in the first place.

    The search function that’s missing is also annoying, but I don’t mind using the online epg to search for shows as you can perform more specific searches as well as search 14 days in advance.

    -> Add Box Office Movies to iSuggest

    ..Finally *they have fixed* Press (Select) to ready story on SkyNews-Local/Multiview. 3/4 of the articles on active you were not able to read. now you can read all

  20. Series links dropping off like flies for about 3-4 weeks… A-Z doesn’t work…

    New firmware is a bit buggy, has quite a few lag issues, I now get more scrambled images more frequently via Satellite (but maybe that’s the weather?)…

    There’s a thread on Whirlpool listing firmware features which are missing (search for ‘foxtel features I’d like to see’).
