No it won’t be an April Fool’s joke….
STVDIO is the name of the arts channel which will replace Ovation from April 1st.
Operated by SBS-managed PAN TV, the new channel puts the TV letters smack bang into its title.
“The name STVDIO represents the new channel perfectly,” said SBS Director of Marketing Jacquie Riddell.
“Every art form – be it dance, fine art, music, theatre, film or writing – is created in a studio,” Ms Riddell said. “In addition to performance, our new channel will take audiences into how art is made and what makes artists tick.”
The channel promises arts and entertainment programming, news, events, discussion and debate.
The Ovation channel has been almost single-handedly responsible for turning Andre Rieu into a household name in Australia.
STVDIO will be broadcast on Foxtel and Austar.

Am I boring for thinking the name should’ve been simply, ‘SBS ARTS’? The network presentation could’ve mirrored what SBS ONE & TWO do in some way…
Any chance we can get this channel on free to air instead? SBS need a new third channel that has some substance….
While we are making fun of the name: what about STUVIDEO?
That name is silly. Foxtel might as well renegotiate the deal with Ovation, and stop the STVDIO making it’s debut.
What a silly name.and they think they’re clever with that title.
How silly
The funny thing about the name “Studio” is… it doesn’t have a V in it!!
This is so typical of the artistically gifted. I bet it took them months to come up with this one.
@Seymor Smith: Those people you refer to are probably also aware of cultural reference such as I, CLAVDIVS or wear jewellery from BVLGARI, so will probably not have a problem with STVDIO 🙂
Kinda thought the name was obvious: “Every art form – be it dance, fine art, music, theatre, film or writing – is created in a studio.”
A change is as good as a holiday i guess, still the same channel though just a new name
I am hoping that the House of Eliott will be transferred from Ovation to this new channel.
“STVDIO” is pronounced ‘studio’, according to mUmBRELLA.
Though I’ll probably call it “Stuv-dio” too, KFed.
It goes so well with ‘Siffy’ (SyFy)!
Hate to stop the fun guys, but it will be pronounced “Stu Dee Oh” – as in Studio.
Such a let down, eh?!
I would expect there to be a high correlation between people interested in the arts and people who prefer correct spelling. This sounds like a music channel for tweens.
Or maybe it’s pronounced Steve Dio like its Ronny James Dio’s long lost Brother 🙂
I hope they stick to a format that includes more than just Andre Rieu !
Unfortunately the Bio channel is all over the place at the moment with shows like Judge Judy etc, what about some interesting specials on stars past and present like like Rod Stewart, Abba, Madonna or Lionel Ritchie ?
We want Bio’s on the Bio channel, not reality TV.
Take not the programmers of the new Ovation channel – stick to a format .
And bet it’s in the same package that Ovation was part of
I henceforth will refer to it only as “Stuv-dio”.
hmmm
STVDIO animation company (USA / Hong Kong)
STVDIO eyewear, clothing, interior design, art stvdio…
Oh well, Ovation was hardly an original title either, and originality is not a proven formula for success on the Australian TV landscape.
What I don’t know is wheter the programming will change or be any better or worse.
You give something to SBS and they give it a name that only people from Eastern Europe could pronounce.
As long as “Darling Buds of May” keep airing I don’t care LOL
“The name STVDIO represents the new channel perfectly”
They are quite right, it does represent cr@p.
So long as they keep (ban?) all Andre Reui performances to a minimum…
How Exactly does one pronounce that…?
Love the name and logo.
..so in other words they are replacing ovation. …with ovation (under a different name)
