Survivor finale update

Heads up on tonight's clip show of Survivor, with the end of the Samoa series set to air in the first week of February.

Survivor fans might get a bit of surprise tonight with the first episode at 7:30pm being a highlights episode.

But Nine is actually airing the episodes in the same order as they aired in the US, where the clip edition airs during the Thanksgiving holiday week. It might have been nice if Nine had skipped this one. At least the second episode gets back to basics.

There are two more episodes next week, but on Australia Day January 26 the final instalments won’t air due to cricket commitments.

That leaves the 2 hr finale and the Reunion, where the winner is announced, set for a February 2nd finale. That also sets Nine up nicely to start new titles a week later in official survey.

  1. and Nine shows Russell saying “I’m the best player ever” in the Heroes vs Villains promo. So can we presume he won the current series, therefore no need to watch?

  2. First Channel Nine stuffed up this week by promoting the 8:30pm episode as “Evil Russell” and whatever he was getting up to this week (which wasn’t much), but those (non)-events didn’t screen until after 10pm… memo Nine – next time you go trumpeting the latest big Survivor news, we won’t care.

What’s worse is that they repeatedly advertised the episode by showing Russell talking at tribal council, whilst sitting right next to Jaison who was clearly wearing the immunity necklace!! So, no surprises when Jaison won immunity. Nice spoiler Nine!!

  3. Forgot about that! Nine are gonna have a few weeks of catching up to do once the Winter Olympics are over. With Survivor and the Olympics, it looks like there are actually a couple of things worth watching on Nine finally.

  4. There’s a Survivor special airing in the US on Feb 4th which looks back at the first 10 years of the show. Maybe Nine will show this on Feb 9th in the 1st week of ratings and then go straight to Heroes vs Villains the next week, showing each episode the same week it airs in the US.

  5. @David: Ah, OK. So there will be at least one week with no Survivor. So maybe Nine’s not planning on showing in in February. Otherwise, why wouldn’t they stretch Samoa out so that it finishes right before Heroes vs Villains starts?

  6. Nine are promoting Survivor as a straight out double episode. It would make more sense to promote the summary show for those who may not have seen it before to catch up, and for those who have seen before to relive the show’s best moments as well as see some unseen footage.

  7. The last few seasons have actually had good clip shows with actual new footage and information, not them just rehashing what has happened. Unfortunate that it falls into the schedule like that though but showing it earlier will give away who has been voted out and showing it later, it becomes a bit irrelevant.

The show has mad a bit of a resurgence in Australia, I hope Nine continue to air it with Heroes vs Villains on the main channel and not Go! 20 seasons, such an amazing achievement!

    1. In fairness it does have new footage. I just hate being delayed from the main game. Don’t know why we have to sit thru a Thanksgiving filler, but I think it’s about timing in with 9 summer plans.

  8. Would have been better to have the clip show as a special at a different day or time so that those who want to watch it can, but those who don’t want to watch it don’t need to wait for the next episode after it.

  9. Russell’s the kind of villain you want to see voted off just to see him get his comeuppance, but you can’t help admiring the brilliance of his scheming and foresight. Probably the best player ever, but by mentioning his wealth to some of the other survivors, probably the most stupid too. So maybe not the best player ever! ha!

  10. I don’t mind having the clip show actually because I’ve missed a couple of episodes this season including the first one. Would be good to see what Russell’s been up to in the eps I’ve missed. He’s awesome..
