TV Tonight joins Twitter

From today, the Hiatus is over, and to celebrate, there is now a TV Tonight Twitter feed.

From today, the Hiatus is over!

TV Tonight resumes regular posting of television stories.

And to celebrate, there is now a TV Tonight Twitter feed (you asked for it, you got it!) at twitter.com/tvtonightau

Twitter will now post:

  • News
  • Top Stories
  • Programming
  • Reviews
  • Pay TV

Each Tweet has a headline with a URL link back to the website, similar to RSS. The feed has been in test mode for 2 weeks but launches officially today.

It may also be employed for Special Events (ie Logies), but we’ll see…. as it’s a work in progress there may yet be a few tweaks.

Anyone who has been visiting the site during my Hiatus will know there has been an awful lot of stories posted -around 400. This includes interviews, reviews, the TV Tonight Awards and exclusives such as the story on Rudd returning to Sunrise picked up by major newspapers around the country last week.

My friends are also telling me I have to work less hours this year, so I have decided to maintain a Hiatus approach to weekends, being major news, ratings and comments moderation. Lesser stories may be held until Mondays as a result. I trust the past few weeks have demonstrated how major news is still covered with regularity.

Please note more comprehensive Ratings will resume with official surveys in 2 weeks’ time.

And now a little housekeeping: Don’t forget Comments Policy bans USE OF CAPS, html links and asks for brevity. This is for everyone’s benefit. It avoids lengthy comments, ALL IN SHOUTING with veiled marketing links to everyone’s personal Facebook protest (you should see what people try to sneak through!). Too many people still ignore a request to avoid actively endorsing Downloading. If you don’t use a working email you shouldn’t expect any feedback on why your comment was not published.

I would also like to remind of the directive to “write respectfully of others.” This includes not just readers but even those on TV. It’s fine to have a disliking for someone on air, but comments that say “TV star X is a sh**!” really don’t demonstrate much thought. It’s great to have passion, it’s better to make it productive. If you wouldn’t say it in person, you shouldn’t be saying it online.

And lastly, when you lift any content from here I only ask for an active link, and please don’t take 100% of the article.

Ok rant over. Hiatus over, let’s get on with 2010 telly…. hang on, tomorrow is a public holiday, hurrah!

That Twitter feed again: twitter.com/tvtonightau

  1. @tasmanian devil – It’s for those who utilise Twitter on a regular basis or have it running in the background, we don’t often check this site on an hourly basis to see if there are any new updates.

Just think of it as a RSS reader, when TVT is updated we’ll immediately be informed and given the option to choose whether or not we want to read more about it.

I really cannot not see any negativity over this just more exposure for the site. Besides, the tweets are automatically created by a WordPress application I’m presuming.

  2. No offence, but I don’t really see the point. Why would you go to Twitter when it’s just as easy to go to the actual blog and read the full stories instead of just the headlines?

  3. err twitter i waiting for u to join that thin david and dont u think this now going to cause more work for u well hope u can keep up with it all and dont listen to your friends ha no jokeing enjoy your weekend breaks

  4. “If you wouldn’t say it in person, you shouldn’t be saying it online.”

Couldn’t have said it better myself. While most commenters have something interesting/novel/important to say, some of the comments are just rubbish. Also, welcome back from your hiatus.

  5. Welcome to Twitter David! And since your friends told you to work less hours this year, hope you have decent breaks more often.
As for web links, sometimes it’s unavoidable that they may be posted if they are TV related and you did not cover them initially.

  6. Welcome back, David – it’s as if you never went away! (Perhaps endorsement of the notion to take more time off! 😉 )

Isn’t Twitter just Facebook for people with ADD?

  7. Hi David

Very good of you to point out some of the mistakes that can make and I have only just realized of myself typing the wrong email. Agree with your way of approaching twitter as a work in progress and a good way with aligning with special events to how you see it work.

  8. Twitter, yay finally David – Thank You, Thank You.

I agree with your friends, so it’s great to see you taking ‘time off’ over the weekends – you deserve it. Mind you, putting it into practice is the hard part 🙂

And David, your work does not go unnoticed, especially during your ‘hiatus periods’.

    Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
