24 film back on the cards

Twentieth Century Fox has picked up a pitch from a writer for a 24 film which sees Jack Bauer travelling to Europe.

A big screen version of 24 looks closer to being a reality after Twentieth Century Fox has picked up a pitch from screenwriter Billy Ray, who wrote the Russell Crowe thriller State of Play.

The idea of a feature 24 has long been touted, but Kiefer Sutherland has given this version his approval.

Ray’s storyline would reportedly see Bauer travelling to Europe, though few other details have been made public. If the film is made, executives will seek to hold on to the creative team that worked on the series in order to maintain the tonal qualities which made the show such a smash.

However a film would likely only eventuate once the television series had expired. The number of people watching 24 in the US has dropped by 10% year-on-year to 11.9 million for the current series.

Sutherland recently said, “In a media world that is changing unbelievably fast, a television series can either act as a great trailer for a film, or a film can act as a great trailer for a television series. And I think the first person who actually does that is going to change the way television interacts with feature films.”

Hope it’s better than 24: Redemption, Kief….

  1. Love 24
but want to see the tv series rap up this season, there’s only so muc jack can do in a day. That said, a feature film would be great.

I only wish the simpsons creators had ended the tv series and focused on films.

  2. I agree with you David. Redemption wasn’t worth the 90 minutes airtime (plus ads) that it got. The only reason it existed however was cause Keifer was doing time in jail (DUI IIRC) and the writers strike in America. It was hastely put together, and it showed.

But at least us 24 fans got a two hour fix that year than having to wait a whole year. I love 24 (definitely one of my top five shows).
