Airdate: Nine News: Remembering Black Saturday

Nine News Melbourne will air a special commemorating Black Saturday bushfires in which family members of the late Brian Naylor speak for the first time.

This Saturday, Nine News in Melbourne will broadcast a one-hour special commemorating the devastating Black Saturday bushfires which took 173 lives last year.

Live from Kinglake, the program features never before seen footage and interviews.

Reporter Tony Jones, long-time friend and colleague of Brian Naylor who lost his life along with wife Moiree, speaks to his children and grandchildren.

Nine promises “his family break their silence for the very first time” in a series of compelling interviews. A family feud  following the death of of the legendary news anchor spilled into the public arena last year.

The special also features previously unseen footage of a family and their neighbour as embers rain down all around them.

New footage has also surfaced of a CFA tanker and its crew trapped by fire.

Nine News reporters will also be on the ground at locations throughout the affected areas as communities continue to rebuild their lives.

It airs at 6.00pm Saturday, February 6th on GTV9.

  1. What a fantastic bulletin. All stories very tasteful and beautifully put together. A big thumbs up from me. The Brian Naylor was beautifully shot and edited, but maybe a minute or two too long.

  2. They can’t tell everybody’s story. This is almost representative of them as a family telling people there story and how they are getting through it.

    My other comment didn’t seem to make it so I will repeat it. What are other networks channel 7 and 10 doing to mark the anniversary, will there be special coverage?
    I’m pretty sure there’s nothing wrong with those comments…

  3. I just hope the good folks at Channel 9 remember that Black Saturday wasn’t just about Brian and Moiree Naylor. A very sad story, but a lot of other people died too.
