Contestant in the heat of the kitchen

One of the contestants in My Kitchen Rules has had brushes with the law that have led to suspended jail terms.

Channel Seven has played down suggestions that one of its contestants in My Kitchen Rules has had brushes with the law that have led to suspended jail terms.

South Australian contestant Matt Michaelis issued a statement via Seven saying, “The charges relate to traffic offences and receiving stolen goods from some years ago.

“All matters have been before the court some charges were dismissed without conviction.

“We are trying to promote through the forum of My Kitchen Rules that we can function as a family despite being divorced.

“My heart is in the right place and as a loving father, and supportive parent, through our good fortune we’re trying to assist others.”

Seven backed Michaelis saying, “Matthew and Melissa entered the competition for all the right reason.

“Everyone deserves a second chance.”

The news follows TEN’s Biggest Loser having to re-edit episodes when one of its contestants was charged with possessing child pornography.

He will face court next month.
