David Atkins the man behind Olympics show

Australia's David Atkins is producing the Opening Ceremony in Vancouver, but admits it's hard to keep the secrets from social networkers.

A giant bear, spouting whales, maple leaves, skaters, dancers, acrobats and “Both Sides Now” -just some of what you can expect from the Opening Ceremony of the Winter Olympics.

It’s proving hard to keep the secrets under wraps, after two dress rehearsals for the big show, which has been produced by Australia’s David Atkins.

Atkins, the choreographer /performer known for Hot Shoe Shuffle, Squizzy Taylor and events at the Sydney Olympics, Melbourne’s Commonwealth Games and Asian Games in Qatar has acknowledged it’s hard to keep things quiet with social networking at every turn.

“In this day and age where people can disseminate information internationally at the push of a button from anywhere … it has been a real task trying to maintain confidentiality,” he said.

He has advised to expect more emotion than spectacle in a two-hour show being staged at the BC Stadium.

Canada’s opening ceremony is likely to showcase its vast wilderness, its long winters, and maybe even Cirque du Soleil, the famous Canadian troupe.

But what about Ms. Celine Dion? Blame Canada?

You can see footage of the rehearsals here.

The big show airs live around the country at 12:30pm AEDT tomorrow on Nine and is repeated tomorrow night.

  1. The ceremony should contain a generous serving of cheese if Somer’s had any input.

Everybody’s scratching, scratching scratching. It’s very very catching, catching catching…
