Ed Kavalee is busy working on a new comedy series he has written with a ‘mini-pilot’ he has self-funded.
Featuring Tony Martin, Glenn Robbins and Josh Lawson it is described as a narrative comedy about two guys trying to keep a dream alive.
The Age reports the show features two former teenage stars, both now 30, doing it tough with shopping centre gigs and low-paid corporate jobs, milking the tiny amount of fame they have left. Meanwhile, a former co-star has made it big in Hollywood.
”I got the idea after speaking to a friend’s boyfriend. I said, ‘What do you do?’ and he goes, ‘I did a kids’ show 10 years ago.’ And I went, ‘Um, OK, but what do you do now?’ and he says, ‘Oh, you know …”’
Kavalee intends to cast himself in a main role unless the networks decide he isn’t handsome enough “and then I’ll get Daniel MacPherson to play my part”.
TV Tonight understands the ‘rather gentle comedy’ also stars Toby Truslove.
Kavalee may yet front a second season of TV Burp this year on Seven.

As much as I love the thought of Ed and Tony together again, I’m not especially confident that a sitcom is the right vehicle for them. But I look forward to seeing what develops.
Terribly apprehensive about Aussie comedy but this really does sounds tops. I’d give it a go.
Well, even if it only has half the laughs of TV Burp it will still have….. (David – what is half of zero???)
Bring back TV Burp!! Loved it…especially the send ups of the craft lady on Better Homes
Does anybody else think this sounds familiar to that show that Peter Moon did on the Comedy Channel last year. Instead of one out of work former star now there are two….
@Garion No show is improved by a laugh track. If you have to be told where to laugh I genuinely feel sorry for you.
I’m sure Armitage Shanks is smiling approvingly from above at this news…
Sounds good, but I have to disagree and say I think it will be better without a laugh track. Laugh tracks in my opinion make it seem more American. I hope ABC or Ten pick it up.
If they don’t pick up this show, it will have us all asking “How Come?” Let’s just hope the thugs in the scallop industry don’t put a stop to this show. We need the prize king back on the telly.
I hope it’s as good as the radio play he wrote, “Donkey Courtroom”.
Why Daniel? Why not KD lang? :p
Tony and Ed and Josh XD
fantastic! i think it’s every get-this fans dream to see tony and ed back together.
dizzy stuff indeed greg…
Damn you Greg – you stole my line..
OK how about alright – that’s good stuff.
haha sounds exactly like that child tv star working at general pants these days
Ed Kavalee and Josh Lawson? Yes please =)
I do hope Ed does another season of TV Burp, it was a great show and hilariously funny.
You’re rigt Garion.
If they put a laugh track on it, i’m sure it’ll be good.
Shows like :30 seconds or Stupid, Stupid Man were not so successful as they just tell jokes after jokes and you just need to laugh when you think it’s funny.
But a laugh track to shows such as Mother and Son and Kingswood country actually worked and i’m sure that if we did another sitcom with a laugh track it will work
Sounds great (apart from Josh Lawson), Ed and Tony together again it can’t fail. Unless the same moron that runs Triple M is in charge!!!
This could be dizzy stuff, folks.
It does sound good and I like the quip about Daniel McPherson playing his part.
Hope we see a 2nd season of TV Burp the only decent show 7 has created in eons.
I’ll be interested to see it, he seemed like a funny chap on TV Burp (awful name, I hope they change that).
I like the sound of this and I also hope burp makes a return.
Life imitating art (or vice versa)… Always a good premise.
Not sure I’d know who was who if Josh Lawson was in the same show.
This sounds exciting.
This could be good – Australia needs more sitcoms.
An Australian comedy show without a laugh track just doesn’t seem funny.
This actually doesn’t sound half bad. I hope a network picks it up.
