Gavin & Stacey on ABC2

UK comedy Gavin and Stacey is about to get another run on Australian telly.

If you haven’t seen it on Seven, or the UK TV channel, now ABC2 comes to your rescue.

The show will go right back to S1E1 from 9:30pm Thursday February 25.

Gavin is an ordinary boy from England; Stacey is an ordinary girl from Wales. They speak every day on the phone at work, and yet they’ve never met … until now.

After countless conversations long distance, Gavin and Stacey have become quite obsessed with each other: Stacey’s desk is littered with photos of Gavin, and Gavin has been counting the days until he will finally get to meet his Barry Island babe in the flesh.

But when Gavin and Stacey finally meet and their ordinary worlds come together, we see, through their families, their friends and their differences, that there’s no such thing as “ordinary’’ after all.

Episode 1: Thursday February 25, 9.30pm
Gavin and Stacey finally plan to meet up. Stacey’s guardian uncle, Bryn, is concerned as ever for his niece’s well-being and provides her with a rape alarm for her visit to London. Gavin’s mum, Pamela, is very excited for her “little prince”, while his best mate, Smithy, is sceptical and more concerned about what Stacey’s mate, Nessa, is going to look like. Nessa, meanwhile, couldn’t care either way.

When the four friends meet up, several pints and eight aftershocks later, romance blossoms in the most unexpected of places.

  1. Can’t believe ABC2 are bumping G&S to 10.15. This is one of the best comedies of the last 10 years. It should be on ABC1 at a family time. Tidy!

  2. Gavin and Stacey has been bumped to 10.15 on Thursdays to make room for a new series of The Graham Norton Show. Is ABC2 doing this because of poor ratings????

  3. It’s a great show, highly underrated, but is is easily available via other (legal) means.

Good on ABC2 for actually having the guts to show it. Now all they need to pick up is 30 Rock, and I’m happy!

  4. I can confirm, via the abc forum that the ABC has the rights to Season 1 and 2 of this series.

Most likely they can show Season 3 once the rights expire off pay tv.

  5. Gavin & Stacey is a brilliant show and has never been given the respect it deserves in this country. It’s very witty and extremely funny. I too am glad that ABC have taken it over. In fact, commercial channels in Australia should’t be allowed to purchase quality Brit series as they just make a mess of it. (Look at Torchwood on Ten: They didn’t even know how to promote it properly).
Perhaps ABC can take “Survivors” off Nine as they advertised that it was coming for a few weeks and never eventuated. It’s a great show and I’ve just started watching Series 2 which is just as good.
Also, as others have said here ‘Benidorm’ should be moved to the ABC.

  6. Seven showed all of season one and then repeated it on Seven Two. I saw the Christmas special recently on UKTV, but I was hoping ABC2 would pick it up from season 2. Oh well just longer to wait.

Does 7 still have the rights to the show? I hope not because they clearly didn’t like it. ABC will at least treat it with respect.

Now we just have to wait for ABC to pick up the rights to Benidorm and Not Going Out.

  8. ABC tend to repeat shows from the beginning especially when new eps are coming I mean look at Bed Of Roses which I for one was greatful for because I miss this gem the first time. So while this will be the 3rd screening of this show the good news for fans will be there will no longer be adverts and you can rest assure that once ABC2 finish the repeats they will move on to season 2 and so on.

  9. If I remember correctly this series started on FTA on Seven but they dropped it after an episode or two. But then they showed all of series 1 on 7TWO. And now series 1 is showing again on ABC2. I hope one of those 3 channels will get around to series 2 and 3 eventually!

  10. Could the ABC repeat new programmes that have recently been screened on ABC1 such as new episodes of The Bill, Taggart, etc etc.. on ABC2. Gavin and Stacey, on 3 channels must be a record and great business for the makers of the programme.
