Got Talent no Idol wannabe

Despite their producers joining Australia's Got Talent, Seven's Tim Worner says, "We have never discussed Idol."

Seven’s head of programming Tim Worner says Australia’s Got Talent will remain true to its format despite hiring former Idol identities Kyle Sandilands and Executive Producers Greg Benness and Suzanne Mitchell.

“In talking to producers [FremantleMedia Australia] about the show, we have never discussed Idol,” Worner told the Sunday Telegraph.

“We are certainly not marching into Idol or Popstars territory, that is not the intent. But we are marching towards a bigger and better show.

“Thousands are turning up for the auditions in cities across the country and the numbers are double – sometimes triple – what they were last year,” he said.

TV Tonight hears that since the unconfirmed end of Australian Idol this year, AGT has been inundated with solo singers.

But it’s very keen to keep the visual acts in the show it enjoyed for the last 3 years.

It is understood the show has also seen former Idol record label Sony BMG sign on.

  1. Seven could do a lot worse than look at reviving The X Factor in Australia. It probably sit better on Seven than Ten, and with Idol out of the way one of the main reasons it failed originally is gone. I expect too if it takes off in the States (which is still a very big if!) it would become attractive to Aussie networks once again.

  2. The show was already dull and tired. Making the judges more controversial, keeping the overexposed Grant as the host and introducing boring to watch solo singers… I don’t think its going anywhere fast…
