Foxtel subscribers are in for a treat at the moment with the Movie Networks suite of channels currently available to all subscribers until March 8th.
Last night Movie Extra aired Tropfest 2010, which will also be repeated this Saturday arvo at 1pm.
On Thursday Movie Extra premieres Season 3 of Mad Men.
And on March 8 it airs the Academy Awards live.
The channels on offer include Movie One, Movie Two, FMC Family, Starpics 1, Starpics 2, Movie Extra, Movie Greats, TCM and World Movies.
However the offer doesn’t extend to HD Channels.

hey david, the email i got from foxtel says 13 feb to 2 march. i really don’t want to miss the oscars – are you sure it’s all the way until 8 march?
This is a 2010 story.
austar has it to its to shut people like me complaining about repeat shows on fuel and comedy rang twice no answer yet i pay to watch them not olimpics crap
So does that mean I get a discount for the month then, since I’m already paying for it?
Come on Cathy that’s a bit of sour grapes, so you paid for it big deal, everyone else will only be receiving it for a couple of weeks.
Ararat, apparently Movie Network had a playout problem with subtitles on their HD channels when they first started, so they had to upscale to HD. They do have stuff in HD now though.
Thank you David for yet another gift of information. Sure enough when i checked my channels there it was – free movies! Not that Foxtel or Telstra bothered to spruik it. Thanks again!
Worked out well – got to see Tropfest (and the unusual movie people) live last night.
The last time I saw such an eccentric group of people was the 2020 Summit!
why?
Yeah, noticed on Sunday morning that the SD Movie Network channels were available, but not their HD equivalents, which begs the question why would I watch this? Can’t really complain, cos it’s free, but if they were planning on getting me to subscribe… shouldn’t they be showing it to me in HD as an HD subscriber?
Apparently, I’ve demonstrated that I’m willing to pay more for picture quality, and yet they show me movies at significantly lower quality than what I’m used to watching on Foxtel. Oh well, their choice.
The HD movie channels were free for 2 weeks in November, and it was demonstrated then that the Movie Network HD channels were of lower PQ than the Showtime equivalents, so I guess movie network aren’t taking HD seriously (also very few movies with 5.1ch sound, unlike showtime).
what about the customers who already have paid for this package?
Will they get a pro-rata rebate? somehow, I don’t think so.
Just another point to add to the list for reasons to disconnect Foxtel ;-(
Austar has it as well and their offer includes the HD channels.
Information about this is included in the Foxtel magazine which arrived (for me) early (19 Feb).
Hey, so this is my exclusive ! 😀
Its clever of them .Movie Extra screens a few series .I think they are trying to get viewers to subscribe to the movie package after letting them see 2 episodes of a new series and they expect lots of phone calls after March 8 I bet .
Don’t fall for it !!
@Tom – I got an email about this on Wednesday.
Awwe I already pay for that package. *wants free showtime for two weeks*
I guess this doesn’t include Austar again?
It would be nice if Foxtel made an effort to tell people this.
