Renewed: Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, ANTM

The CW Network has been busy giving renewals to four of its dramas and one reality series but leaves Smallville and Melrose Place dangling.

The CW Network has been busy giving renewals to four of its dramas and one reality series as Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210, and America’s Next Top Model are given early pick-ups in the US.

But left hanging in the balance are Smallville, Melrose Place, One Tree Hill and Life Unexpected.

The Vampire Diaries is the youth network’s most-watched show, averaging 4.6 million viewers and the network’s number one show among adults 18-34.

The CW also calls Supernatural fans “one of the most loyal audiences of any show on television and does heroic work in a perennially tough time period.” Creator Eric Kripke had recently said, “I’m looking at this season as the last chapter in this particular story,” but noted, “That doesn’t mean there can’t be a new story.”

Of the four outstanding, Smallville and One Tree Hill are the two most-likely shows to get any good news.

The shows are split between Australian networks including TEN, Foxtel and Nine.

  1. Come on TEN. Another season of Supernatural. The show is Popular. Give it the respect it deserves. Put season 5 back on and fast track season 6 – or, like Nick said, give it to FOX8.

  2. At least the US values Supernatural and realises and appreciates the fan’s loyalty and passion. That’s where it counts too i guess. Now if Ten just recognises it…….

Oztam give more boxes to SPN fans!

Glad about VD and GG as well. But over the moon at SPN….expected it, it is too good to let go but am ecstatically happy. Love Eric Kripke so hope he still plays a huge part in the show, love Sera Gamble as well so i am feeling good about it all.

  3. Melrose Place is extremely underrated – a great series in every way. Don’t really know why it hasn’t been successful – its a lot better than 90210. It should be back next season, but alas probably won’t be.

  4. I wish TEN would just hand Supernatural over to FOX8. Treat it right (like Gossip Girl and Entourage) and people will come on over.

Please TEN. It’s better than NCIS LA at least.

  5. Great news about Supernatural. I hope Kripke’s “executive producer” credit isn’t just for show and to appease the fans. I’m looking forward to how they recover from the events of season 5 (which haven’t even been fully played out yet).

Keeping my fingers crossed that Melrose Place is cancelled so that Katie Cassidy (aka Ruby V1.0 from Supernatural) can take up the lead in Drew Barrymore’s new Charlie’s Angels TV series.

  6. DansDans – I know what VD is – it’s just such a horrible abbreviation for Vampire Diaries. Thanks for your concern about my sex life, but no fear, it’s covered! 😉

  7. @Craig, It just seems like a huge waste of money and bad management to have One running lots and lots of sport that no one is watching. A couple of hours a day isn’t a lot to ask for !

  8. @steven g – sorry but I doubt TEN will change ONE any time soon, we just have to wait for them to get the 3rd (SD) channel on the air later this year. Probably when we will see the likes of 90210 return to our screens.

  9. @ Marco

Oh, and I’m getting a t-shirt made up: “I Love VD!”

That’s probably not something you want to advertise – i cant see too many people wanting to sleep with you knowing you love diseases..

  10. I used to be a big fan of Smallville. Now I’m struggling to get through the 7th season on dvd. (not cause i don’t like it, more don’t have time). But Clark should have become Superman by now. They are really dragging it. It’s gotta end soon.

  11. Smallville is past it’s prime, time for Clark to hang up his tights, Melrose Place will probably die before TEN GEts it to air, One Tree Hill is a good show but again never did any good here.

I just hope Life Unexpected gets the green light for a 2nd season, good show, solid start, but which network has the rights here?

  12. I hope Melrose is renewed (it wont though). I seem to be the only who likes it. I have found it more enjoyable than S2 of 90210. I have always enjoyed OTH, but this season is very boring and it has to end. It really should have ended last season. Smallville has had it’s time too. They should so a 13 episode final season and promote the hell out of it and have a big finish.

  13. Kripke’s stepping down as show runner, but will still apparently executive produce – so the show’s still in safe hands. So, good news for me re SN, VD and GG. All I need now is Smallville to be renewed (I’ve lost hope for MP2.0) and I’ll be a happy chappy.
