Twist stuns My Kitchen Rules

My Kitchen Rules took a new twist last night when 5 new teams of home chefs were introduced to the series.

My Kitchen Rules took a new twist last night, as promised, when 5 new teams of home chefs were introduced to the series.

The shock addition threw a new curve ball to the remaining four couples who had just seen the WA couple eliminated from the show.

Last night’s dinner cooked by the Adelaide team scored the highest marks yet: 74. Teams were then sent to the MKR Headquarters in a master kitchen (looking not too dissimilar to a certain other TV kitchen).

But the twist of the extra 5 couples, who entered via an astutely included revolving door, was a well-kept secret and will keep viewers guessing. It means 5 more domestic homes will be turned into instant restaurants, and lengthening the gameplay for Seven.

Just where it will all finish is anyone’s guess. The show is an original Seven format, and the network appears to have addressed concerns of city disinterest when teams were sent packing from My Restaurant Rules.

Hosts Manu Fieldel and Pete Evans seemed to imply last night that the winners from one team might face off against the winner from another.

  1. Enjoy the ride everyone!…its something on TV to watch…why is everyone is such a rush to see a program start and finish? I like the twists and turns and the journeys the show takes you on…not just this but many shows like that!

  2. Twist? This is a twist? Jennifer Aniston’s character being the villian on Derailed was a twist. Seven forked out a crapton of money to produce a MasterChef knock-off, and only had 5 competitors? And one competitor gets voted off every week, that’s h wait, 5 weeks worth of content…. of course there’s going to be more teams, wait for another team to randomly pop up once they’re down from 10 teams to 3 or 4 teams…. like Big Brother use to do, to prolong the series, one person gets oted off, 5 take his/her place….

  3. I would have loved to have seen Tassie represented, but hey we always get left out, so nothing new there!
I was looking forward to the next round, so finding out I now have to watch another 5 sets of contestants was a bit disappointing.
My main beef with this show is the lack of explanation regarding the rules for the dinner parties. What is their budget? Does the entertainment and decoration come out of the budget, or can they spend as much as they want on fire dancers etc ?? The only part of the rules they seem to explain is the time factor, for shopping and prep.
I like the show, but next week will be the telling factor in whether or not I can bother to sit through & get to know 5 more sets of people.
Quick note, I also love Come dine with me, it’s my Saturday night marathon indulgence!!

  4. Bring back The Chopping Block without all the “coming up next week”, “previously on”, “before the break”, “after the break”, “later this season” recaps. If they got rid of the recaps, they could cut the show down to 1/2 hour, or add more content. It was really enjoyable to watch greedy or stupid people fail.

  5. I don’t know whether I should really be saying this, but does anyone else get the feeling perhaps this show is staged?

The reactions between the “couples” and the strange small talk in the kitchen seems so unnatural.

Not to mention the inconsistent editing and reuse of “reaction” shots over and over…

Something just doesn’t seem to ring true for me….

  6. Urgh I don’t want to sit through another 5 contestants; if it were over next week I could handle the other 5 but the fact we’ll probably have to sit through another 3 weeks of heats annoys me; I would like to see the next stage of the competition.

P.S. That Kitchen – Massive masterchef knockoff – and just a reminder to Seven Masterchef is still the better show.

  7. I am actually happy to watch another 5 ‘instant restaurants’. That kitchen last night was serious Masterchef rip off and plus once they move the comp there and out of contestants’ own homes it’s hardly about “my kitchen” rules, it’s “us cooking in a foreign, fake set kitchen” rules.

Meanwhile, I am loving Come Dine with Me Australia on Lifestyle….where do they find those people?….food they make is sh*te but but their personalities are TV gold!

  8. @bonrad, Seven couldn’t have just made this twist on the back of the good ratings and trying to milk it, because the show must have been filmed months ago. We haven’t had those wild storms in Adelaide for a few months.

  9. See i was just expecting Tassie to walk through the door, not a whole new batch. Yeah i’m still not sure of the format or where the shows going, what the prize is. Seven’s just lucky there’s nothing else on at that time now that’s really the only reason i’m watching.

And boo yeah for Adelaide winning. Suck on that. The WA couple were pretty stupid last night, like when Mark took a bit and then dropped his fork and his head down cos he knew it was good. And then when asked their opinion had to try and find some silly complaint to make.

  10. Weird twist, if you ask me. I thought the twist would involve a spoiler such as an extra team or another judge being added. I had a feeling that maybe they would introduce a team from Tasmania into the mix, actually, as Tasmania is conspicuous by its absence. I would never have guessed that they would introduce a second, full elimination round. I noticed that the studio kitchen to be used later in the series is the old Hard Rock Cafe on Bourke St in East Sydney. From the look of the refit they have done on it, Seven have spent a fortune! It looked really good, though I was getting serious MasterChef flashbacks.

  11. Bad call, Seven. Having just invested 3 weeks in seeing the last lot of 5 teams you want us to now start from scratch with another 5 teams? I just don’t have the interest to sit through another lot of 5 “instant restaurants”. If you want to rip off Come Dine With Me (seeing as you’re not going to show the original!) then at least do it at the same rate as the original. I’m over this show now, moving on.

  12. The hosts/makers of the show did a very poor job of explaining the future format of the show. One second they’re showing the existing teams the next stage of the competition by introducing the fabulous looking kitchens, the next there are 5 new pairs and it seems we’ll be watching them for a few weeks. What then? It’s almost like they’re making it up as they’re going along just to drag out the show for a year! Very confusing but I’ll continue watching. Spewing the bitchy couple from Adelaide did as well as they did.

  13. the decision to not tell the audience what was going to happen in the show after round one and beyond (they didn’t even say on screen what they were playing for until last night) i didn’t like until now, it’s a great decision we don’t know what to expect.

its turned out to be a pretty good show, i like it. but i thought it was going to be over for easter, now i guess no one knows.
