APAC airs in North America

APAC, the Australian Public Affairs Channel, is now being broadcast on C-SPAN, the public affairs channel in the US and CPAC in Canada.

APAC, the Australian Public Affairs Channel, is now being broadcast on C-SPAN, the public affairs channel in the US and CPAC in Canada.

The not-for-profit channel funded by Foxtel and Austar and produced by Sky covers Federal, State and Territory Parliaments sittings, question time, senate, National Press Club and select public events.

The addition is seen as a strategic move by Sky as it competes with the ABC to run the $94.2m Australia Network.

Sky chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos said, “APAC’s latest initiatives is more evidence that public service broadcasting can be delivered outside the traditional taxpayer-funded model.”

Sky has also recently criticised ABC’s plans for a 24 hour news channel arguing that the funding will come from established ABC budgets.

  1. I noticed The Australian’s anti-ABC slant on this story, so if it’s simply about Sky (through APAC) selling content overseas, then I have news for them: ABC Television has been doing that since they started in 1956! Australia Network needs to stay with them. Remember how Seven handled it?

  2. i noticed the a-pac site now has a link to Canada’s c-pac, maybe the agreement also allows a-pac to broadcast c-pac, i wish they would give more information about the whole agreement, the c-span, a-pac and c-pac sites have no info.

  3. If Sky ever wins the Australia Network contract. What a disaster that will be. The ABC does a remarkable job currently.
Its great to see APAC on TV in the US/Canada but seriously, say no to Sky taking over the Australia Network signal.

  4. A great move for Australia but exactly how much content will be shown in America? Is it just an hour of question time on some days or more content?
