Eddie complaint dropped

A complaint filed to the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board by gay rights activist Gary Burns has been withdrawn following a meeting between both parties yesterday.

A complaint filed to the NSW Anti-Discrimination Board by gay rights activist Gary Burns has been withdrawn following a meeting between both parties yesterday.

The original complaint stemmed from McGuire’s remarks during the Winter Olympics in which he remarked on costumes by male ice skaters, “They don’t leave anything in the locker room those blokes.”

Gary Burns issued a statement saying, “Eddie McGuire now understands his on air banter with Mick Molloy during the Winter Olympic Games could impact on vulnerable gay teenagers. This was not Eddie’s intention. Eddie does not have one homophobic bone in his body. As President of the Collingwood Football Club he has and continues to promote tolerance for all minority Australians, including homosexual Australians. I found his candor one of openness. Eddie McGuire is a man of integrity.”

McGuire has given interviews to GLBTi radio station JOY in Melbourne and DNA Magazine clarifying his position as one of support and apologised if any offence was taken. There was no requirement for any further apology or financial settlement.

Burns is still proceeding with a separate case regarding the NRL Footy Show and a sketch involving Matthew Johns, which is set down for May before the Anti-Discrimination Board.

  1. Puh-lease!!
He caters for the cro-magnon bogans watching Nein with homophobia, then waxes lyrical about equality in a private meeting over a soy cafe latte – and Burns falls for it! zOMG

Brain isn’t a bone. The entire brain can be homophobic and you still don’t have a homophobic bone in your body…

  2. Burns: “Eddie does not have one homophobic bone in his body”. So why did Burns complain then, you have to wonder … though not really. Burns is a professional complainer.

  3. Well, you gotta hand it to him, Eddie sure can turn on the charm.

Of course there may still be homophobic parts of Eddie. His brain, for example.
