Hey Hey: confirmed cast

Here's who is officially on board for Hey Hey's return so far. And it doesn't include Jon Cryer.

Nine has confirmed its cast for the first episode of the returning Hey Hey it’s Saturday.

Daryl Somers will be joined by John Blackman, Red Symons, Russell Gilbert, Wilbur Wilde, Livinia Nixon, Ossie Ostrich and Plucka Duck.

Media has speculated that Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickson will replace Ian ‘Molly’ Meldrum, who is unable to return due to contracts with Seven and Foxtel.

There has also been discussion that Jacki MacDonald had been invited to return. Producer Graeme Trippett this week told TV Week both Ossie and Jacki “might not be a weekly proposition but when they feel it’s right, they’ll come down.”

Meanwhile Nine has also cut together a joint Hey Hey / Two and a Half Men promo in which Jon Cryer opens his front door to be greeted by Russell Gilbert, Wilbur Wilde, Red Symons, Livinia Nixon, Dickie Knee and Plucka Duck as their new (timeslot) neighbours. Cute idea.

Hey Hey it’s Saturday on Wednesday returns April 14 at 7:30pm.

  1. how pathetic all these knockers. it was a top rating show when it was cut. the real reason was $$$$ it cost alot to produce and daryl wanted to update it but having it interactive (with the internet he now can) and channel nine said no. mainly cause “reality tv was the new wave of the future”. now that relity tv is seen as a bore and you can get enough reality if you walk out the door, people are now turning back to the tv and the movie theatres for light entertainment. why do you think avatar made so much money?! people want to be entertained! and how many australian made shows are out there now? especially australian made shows that aren’t clones of american and english shows. master chef, my kitchen rules etc all clones of other overseas hits. Finally we have a show back that is our own. we have been far too americanised by the crap that has been forced down our necks. I say long live hey hey, long may you rein! i just hope they have the repeats on saturday night at least. that’s why there are so many fights and troubles out on the streets at night as there is nothing to keep the younger ones in and when it was on on a saturday night you never dared to go out till it was finished! Which means you weren’t out all night and not getting as plastered so not causing fights!

  2. @ tony , hey hey was axed oringally cos of Budget cos of flying in talent and making the Show in Australia nothing to do with Ratings it was one of the top Ten Highest Rating Programs on tv . Also Chanel 9execs at that stage believe everyone was going to watch reality crap Tv hence why Sale and the price is right were also axed at the same time

  3. Can’t wait for Hey Hey to return, lots of laughs to be had, friends over watching it together and as for all the cynics out there, you don’t have to watch!! I’m one very grateful viewer and I’m glad this variety show is given another chance!! I hope it does well and are ratings really the most important thing for this shows survival?? I just hope it dosn’t turn into breakfast tv at night!! Wish Molly was going to be on it though, he isn’t given enough to do on 7. Good on Daryl for at least trying to do something positive for Australian television.
