Logies in 3 yr Melbourne deal

The TV Week Logie Awards have signed a deal to remain at Crown Casino in Melbourne for the next three years.

The TV Week Logie Awards have signed a deal to remain at Crown Casino in Melbourne for the next three years.

The deal follows offers to relocate the awards night to Queensland.

While the 2010 Awards were announced some weeks ago as remaining in Melbourne, the latest announcement should stave off more attempts for some time. Melbourne recently lost the right to retain the AFI Awards after Sydney secured it for 2011.

The Logies also drew upon support from Melbourne Major Events, citing the event’s economic benefits to the State of Victoria.

Meanwhile rumours of Susan Boyle appearing are firming, along with singer John Mayer who already performs in Melbourne the night after the Logies.

Boyle’s Logie appearance would likely be her only Australian performance, should it eventuate.

The Logies will take place on May 2nd. A host is yet to be announced.

  1. Just to clarify, Sydney got the AFI Awards because Melbourne no longer wanted them. Not financially viable apparently…. Sydney were happy to ignore this fact when they announced it though.

  2. I’m glad that the Logies will be staying in Melbourne. But please can we have a good host! I second the Hugh Jackman comment below. Please not Richard Wilkins…and please have funny stuff to keep us entertained during the 3 hours!!!

  3. I 2nd the no Richard ‘Wilde’ Wilkins not being involved comment. Did you see the way hey butchered the Oscars. The sooner he is off TV the better, he is so cringe worthy.

Wouldn’t it be great if they could get Hugh Jackman to host! I know it would never come off, but hey would be great.

  4. Why are the Logies on so late in the year these days?

Yes, I know there was some reason about the American prime time season being over so they could get in more guests from there……but I’ve seen next to no American TV personalities at the Logies for several years now.

I think it should move back to the March slot that it had originally, it worked then for decades, so why not now?

Having it in May seems way too late to me.

  5. It’s good that it’s staying in its traditional home of Melbourne. It’s not good, in my opinion, that the Victorian Government is contributing to keeping it. In any event, let’s hope, i’m begging the producers, that it can be a great show with plenty of pace and an atmosphere of excitement without p**s weak banter between presenters. I’m looking forward to it now that I have recovered from the trauma of the Gretel Killeen debacle.

  6. In reality this is a good thing. Why should it be up to anyone else to bring this tired old show back to life. It has been withering on the vine in Melbourne for years. When it is all over maybe we can reinvent the whole damned thing !
