Richard Wilkins for Logies host?

Speculation today that Richard Wilkins has emerged as a front runner for Logies host with Natalie Gruzlewski as co-host.

You just gotta love Logies rumours.

The latest one has Richard Wilkins as a potential 2010 host -at least according to an article in the Daily Telegraph.

It reckons he has emerged as a front runner following Eddie McGuire’s hosting of the Winter Olympics. Riiiiiiiight.

Natalie Gruzlewski is “hotly tipped” to play Wilkins’ co-host.

The article even goes so far as to claim, “With Bert Newton deemed too old and Ray Martin and Daryl Somers now out of the industry, the one viable challenger to Wilkins for the job is said to be comedian Shane Bourne. To date, Bourne’s champions say he has insisted he’s not interested in the role.”

That’s likely to be news to Daryl Somers, and indeed Ray Martin. If they’re out of the industry they are yet to turn up at my local McDonald’s drive thru.

Shaun Micallef remains the best pick for 2010: he is witty, urbane and now has a commercial hit -alas he’s not on Nine (neither is Shane Bourne).

Maybe Richard Wilkins is getting in before Karl and Lisa are asked -after all, they host Carols by Candlelight, and they’re fronting the Oscars intro next Monday too. Although Karl is probably looking to keep some distance with the Logies after 2009. The truth is all of these guys know hosting the gig is a poisoned chalice.

We could be in for another one of those years where the gig is shared (one of whom really oughta be Kerri-Anne), or there is no host at all, just a series of presenters.

    The logies have been a complete disater for the past few years, they need to majorly overhaul it.

  4. i think kerri anne would be a great host. one of ch9’s few underused talents. she ends up appearing in every frame of the coverage anyway. why not make it an official position?

  6. Give it to Josh Lawson. His show Romantically Challenged has been bought by Nine. So it’s a perfect fit. Go on Logies, do something you won’t regret.

  7. Sadly Nine has no appropriate talent … Except Bert!

    I have no idea why they wouldn’t have Bert do it. I also agree with Kerri-Anne getting a look in.

    But honestly, the shared hosting (although I have no problem with a duo) ends up feeling like there is no host at all, just doesn’t work.

  10. What about ‘ tiny’ Tim Bailey, Channel Tens weather boy?
    A natural Logies host.
    Attributes.
    His urban obnoxiousness would suit most of the shows audience.
    Would not change his name to Tim Wild. [Wilkins in NZ was known as Richard
    Wild.]
    Um…thats about it.

    Or what about the guys from ‘The Shite Room’. Still more popular than Richard Wilde…I mean Wilkins….

  15. why have I never met a Richard Wilkins fan, or anyone who has ever mentioned him in a positive light?

    john @ 5.58am, completely agree, he must know something on someone to still be employeed.

    A host is meant to engage with it’s audience (both live audience and the tv viewer), something Dickie Wilkins doesn’t do, and you can’t teach a botoxed dog new tricks.

  18. I honestly don’t care anymore. The Logies are a rabble, there’s no credibility, the awards are a joke, and the people that attend treat it as a joke. Having Richard Wilkins host would be like having Perez Hilton host the Emmy’s.

  19. Having Richard Wilkins host the Logies will make the awards even worse than what it is. And don’t even think about asking Lisa and Karl from the Today Show as hosts – they’re just as bad.

    Out of the suggestions I think Kerri-Anne would be the best pick.

  24. Can someone please tell me why this man is still on our screens?What secret does he hold that guarantees him lifetime employment with nine?

    I suggest Lano & Woodley host the telecast.At least it would then be funny.
