US Skins cast

The US version of Skins is making a few tweaks to the cast but sounds pretty faithful to the British original.

These kids are said to be the cast of the US version of Skins for MTV.

Website AfterElton reports that the show is retaining its preference for a cast of unknowns, and will even retain its mix of sex, drugs and youthful rebellion.

According to Pilot information Tony is still named Tony and is just as charismatic and very much the centre of all the action which includes helping his best friend try to lose his virginity and organizing a drug buy for a party everyone is attending. Michelle and Chris retain their names.

Other character name changes include switching Cassie to Cadie, Jal to Cho (and changing her ethnicity from East Asian to Korean), Sid to Stanley, and Abigail to Tabita.  And it will still feature a gay, out and proud character similar to Maxxie who remains a dancer. Named Teo he is described as “a beautiful, gay, Hispanic” boy.

As for Maxxie’s best friend Anwar (Dev Patel) in the UK series, here he is named Abbud here, and he and Teo are still good friends.

  1. I’m not going to say I’m excited for this new series, but I am definitely curious to see how MTV can retain the realistic depiction of drug use and sex while still trying to water it down enough for middle class America.. My guess is that they will do the thing where they just give you the impression that they’re doing drugs, etc, instead of actually showing you. Being MTV and not a more daring network like Showtime or HBO, my guess is that it will be rated PG-13. There won’t be any swearing either.. that’s a definite, but that doesn’t mean the story will be any less compelling, especially considering one of the creators is producing.

I wonder what the critical reaction to the series will be…

  2. I don’t think that anyone who has seen the original will be able to enjoy this remake because all they’ll be thinking about is how the new characters can never live up to the originals. Nevertheless, you can’t blame the yanks for the decision to rewrite the old cast, because Skins co-creator Brian Elsley is writing and executive producing this adaptation.

  3. Great, hipsters….

Why the hell do people think this is “so real” and an accurate portrayal of teenage life?

Where’s the sitting around doing nothing? For years?

  4. US remakes of UK shows rarely, if ever, work – and Skins isn’t doing itself any favours by just rehashing the original UK series.

Considering Skins in the UK changes it’s cast every two years (a third generation is now to be cast and series 5 & 6 commissioned) they could have taken the franchise and created an original American generation of the show. Indeed the concept of Skins in theory could allow numerous versions around the world, all original in their casting and storylines rather than rehashes of the original.

  5. Why is it the americans have to remake *everything* that comes out of the UK in regards to TV shows? Other than the original tv creators making squillians of dollars from the licensing to the americans, is it that the americans can’t come up with original ideas of there own? I won’t be watching the US version of this- there is only one version of skins, the UK one.
Kind of like I won’t be bothering with the US Film remake of Death at a Funeral either, the UK version was hillarious and briilant, the US one I can imagine being unfunny, cheesy, and full of sacachrine or preachiness.

  6. Why on earth would you copy the characters and storylines?

    Pointless in my opinion.

Show them Skins UK and they will fall in love with it, just like we did here in Aus. Nothing is better than the original, and certainly not a rip off remake.

  7. If this was on a network like HBO, Showtime, or even FOX there would be a huge chance that it would be just as good as the UK version. But sadly, this show is on MTV and is almost 100% likely to be terrible.
And also, why are they remaking the whole of generation one? Couldn’t they come up with their own characters and storylines? Ha.

  8. So hang on, is the US Skins going to have new storylines or it just a carbon copy of the UK scripts with US cast members to attract the US audiences? If so i’m not watching. If not, i’ll give it a look in.

  9. Oh god why, i knew that there was going to be an US Skins series but why? Yeah just why? Americans know how to ruin shows from other countries with a passion.

I’m definitely going to give it a chance.

  10. Hmm, I have my doubts about this. Even where US adaptions of shows succeed they’re no where near as good as the originals. I also don’t like the fact it’s a remake. I think they should have made their own characters with their own storylines. One of the things that drew me to Skins was it’s originality and to just reuse the storylines seems a bit like a cop out in that respect. I also don’t like the idea of American remakes because it seems kind of arrogant of them, like they think “It’s a good idea but we could do better”
