Worm off the dial for Rudd

Whether it was Worm or Polliegraph, Nine or Seven .... swinging voters appear to have given the Leaders' Debate to Kevin Rudd.

Whether it was Worm or Polliegraph, Nine or Seven …. swinging voters appear to have given the Leaders’ Debate to Kevin Rudd.

These photos of both leaders on rival networks were just snapped just seconds apart. In the case of the Channel Nine Worm, swinging voters pushed it off the dial and past the  + mark.

Nine voters gave the PM the win by 71% to 29% for the Opposition Leader.

Were all these swinging voters really that swinging…?

  1. @ Gil – was it not the height of arrogance when Tony laughed his moronic laugh when Kevin was saying that the parties need to work together? That was just plain embarassing and proves what a bellend Tony really is.

The parties Do need to start working together more instead of trying to divide us all down the middle, how about we all grow up and get on with things instead of playing schoolyard tactics all the time!

  2. Maybe they should get a bigger number of swinging voters next time., then using a silly worm. I’m sure a lot of people watching the debate on 7 & 9 would have missed a bit while they were worm watching instead of listening.

    SKY.. Abbott 69% Rudd 31%

YAHOO Poll; Who was a better performer in the health debate between Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Opposition Leader Tony Abbott?
    Kevin Rudd 49% 4279 votes
    Tony Abbott 51% 4376 votes

SMH…”Wormology” – as Channel Nine called it – does not have much of a record as a barometer of electoral success. The worm liked Kevin Rudd in 2007, but it also gave the 2004 debate to Mark Latham and the 1998 and 2001 debates to Kim Beazley.

Daily Telegraph… This poll is closed.

    Who won the debate?
    Kevin Rudd 42.15% (599 votes)
    Tony Abbott 49.54% (704 votes)
    It was a draw 8.3% (118 votes)
    Total votes: 1421

  3. When Abbott was speaking, Rudd just looked straight ahead and did not once look at him. I thought this smacked of arrogance…be careful….don’t forget the Sunrise viewers voted you in.

  4. 100 voters surveyed. Population of 22 million. Sure they’re not all registered voters, but that’s a pretty craptacular sized sample to be judging a result on. (almost as bad as the number of people meters in the population)

Even if there are 10 million voters, the 100 are just 0.001% of the voting population. The political commentators agree that Abbott lost, but taking the word of 100 people?

  5. I don’t want to see any more of the Channel Nine worm or the one in Tony Abbott’s speedos. 😛 I’m also thankful that we almost never see Kevin Rudd in any casual wear. 🙂

  6. I think the Ch 9 worm is about as reliable as the polls created by Newspoll or an OzTam rating report. 😆

Having said that, I don’t think that Tony Abbott has done enough to show us how he is going to be a better prime minister or show us any policies that are better than Labor’s policies or the ones that the Liberal party had but voters rejected at teh last election. All we see is him opposing everythng that Labor proposes but not offering an alternative.

  7. People have had a few months now to judge Tony Abbott and they’re not liking what they’re seeing is my take on the worm…. what we saw was more carpring, moaning, negative, rude, arrogant, bombastic, typical ‘born to rule’ behaviour from Abbott.

It’s only Newspoll and its biased host newspaper, The Australian, showing the Libs so close to Labor in the polls, although it shows Rudd still smashing Negative Nancy in the preferred PM stakes. The polls from Morgan and Essential are closer to the mark I suspect but you never hear about those – it doesn’t suit Right Wing Rupert’s agenda

Dream on Libs, you’re not sneaking back into office so easily – your bully boy Abbott is just there to shore up your right wing vote and to stem the bleeding. Australia can be pretty stupid but they won’t be rushing back to bring back Work Choices and a neglected health system courtesy of blame shifting in any great hurry

  8. If you want a good example of public servants not having to take accountability for poor performance, have a look at the Federal Liberal Party’s election advisors.

The party lost the last election because the senior politicians were advised to keep bagging on about the economy. Kevin Rudd on the other hand addressed questions about specific topics in a way that the punters could understand. Sadly, these boof head liberal party advisers are still advising senior Liberal politicians to talk about the economy and not specific topics. For this reason, the Coalition will lose the next election. I am also a Liberal voter.

  9. @Ryan: Thanks to people like you we will be paying off billions of dollars for decades to come, we will also have more and more interest rate rises because of it. The fact is months ago aus was out of the woods and should have held back the spending but didnt. Gotta love fake Krudd/Mr sheen! i mean what an embarassment to australia.

I think the Rudd Government is well intentioned, but public servants by the nature of their job descriptions and protection of job security are not held accountable for poor performance; equally, neither are politicians. Politicians and public servants are rarely sacked; instead they are usually demoted and/or transferred to a new area.

  10. The worm is as accurate as everything else we hear on all other media’s. The problem is that the content people will not whinge like most of you on here but it is there votes that will keep Kev in. The worm went up before anything was said because K-Rudd is just a superior leader.

  11. No offense ryan, but I struggle to take your political advice seriously. Your views on politics are as flawed and biased as your unhealthy obsession with Ten.

  12. I watched the worm very closely and it moved before anything was said, up before
Rudd and down before Abbott. Appears to have been a one way affair. The Qld
Labor Party many years ago had the right Idea use the profits from the Golden Casket,if I remember correctly each hospital had a board made up of the Local Doctors and others from the area it provided for.

  13. @ Steve

“Are the commercial TV channels and their journalists really reporting on politics as impartially as they should be? Or, are they secretly being run by fans of communism?”

    $250m goes a long way…

  14. @tony: Thanks to people like you we will be paying off billions of dollars for decades to come, we will also have more and more interest rate rises because of it. 15. Go the Worm! The moment Mr Rudd drew breath to speak, the worm went through the roof. On the contrary, the moment Mr Abbot drew breath to speak, the worm dropped to the floor.

Clearly, Channels 7 and 9 do not properly scrutineer their audiences controlling the remote controls. If you want proof of this, just google past worm debates and you’ll find that Labor wins every time. So the question we need to ask ourselves is:

“Are the commercial TV channels and their journalists really reporting on politics as impartially as they should be? Or, are they secretly being run by fans of communism?”

  16. I liked Abbott’s combative style and by contrast KRudd talked in motherhood statements which obviously appealed to the worm audiences who obviously had nothing better to do than get paid to sit in a TV studio in Sydney during a working day. Never overestimate the intelligence of the average Australian swing voter!

  17. Oh dear, Ryan, like the Libs wouldn’t have put us in the same amount of debt during the GFC? Every country in the world reacted exactly the same way, regardless of political persuasion. How naive.
