Zach Braff: Scrubs axed.

Updated: "New Scrubs", "Scrubs 2.0" is no more according to Zach Braff who left a brief statement on his Facebook page.

The ‘new’ Scrubs is no more…

At least according to Zach Braff.

Today he said via his Facebook page: “Many of you have asked, so here it is: it appears that “New Scrubs“, “Scrubs 2.0″, “Scrubs with new kids”, “Scrubbier”, “Scrubs without JD” is no more. It was worth a try, but alas… it didn’t work. zb”

The medical comedy series began in 2001 and ran for 7 seasons on NBC. It was picked up by ABC after being cancelled where it has run for two seasons.

The ninth season, retaining only a few of its original cast members, shifted its setting from hospital to medical school with lukewarm reviews.

So far no official statement has yet been reported.

Recently Bill Lawrence said, “In my heart and head I felt like Scrubs ended last year.

“This year was a bit of a spinoff, but I really liked it, I liked what they did. They worked really hard.”

Seven has been airing the once-glorious show late on Sunday nights.

Update: An ABC rep says the network hasn’t made its official decision yet.

  1. Such a load of rubbish. I can’t believe people actually find this so-called comedy entertaining. Its nothing but rubbish and to think that this show has lasted as long as it has is a very big mystery.

  2. What’s sad about shows such as Scrubs is that though they start out being of exceptional quality, the sheen slowly fades as each season goes by and they’re left to peeter out as a mere shadow of their former greatness – hence the legacy left behind is tainted somewhat. If only producers and networks knew when to pull the plug when a show is still on top of its game.

Conversely there are other shows that have the plug pulled on them before they get the chance to reach their full potential.

  3. Scrubs died a slow death it should have ended on NBC (hey if NBC actually axe a show it’s going pretty badly), had the writers strike not occurred during season seven it might have burnt out rather than fading away!

  4. A shame really I never watched the late night versions of Scrubs but this was the only Medical Programme I found remotely worth it.They could have replaced the All Saints Tuesday Timeslot when that was axed rather than letting this show end up on the scrapheap.Another Option would have been have it after the triple family guy on Thursday Night which technically would make it a bout Midnight Friday Morning,

  5. i Love the new scrubs! i’ve watched it more than the old scrubs, not because I don’t like the old scrubs…

i do really like the new characters. it’s a shame they’re letting it fall by the wayside so soon 🙁

  6. I could see it coming. It tried, but unfortunately, I think too many of the new characters were annoying. And it was recycling themes already well covered by the original series.

Meanwhile Better Off Ted, in my mind its real spiritual successor, is almost certainly not returning either.

  7. The sad thing is, as much as the first few episodes of season 9 sucked, and as much as it should have ended after the season 8 finale (or even earlier), it picked up and got a lot better once JD left.

  8. Your dog may be lame, blind, deaf, riddled with fleas, and incontinent, still you don’t like to see it put down.

I liked Season 9, but there’s another excuse for Ch 7 to axe it from its 10:30pm Sunday slot and replace it with Blue Heelers or another reality show variation.

  9. I’m not surprised they should have finished scrubs after season 8 it had the perfect ending, season 9 just hasn’t been the same in the episodes without Zach Braff .
Seasons 1 to 4 were the best, seasons 5 to 7 were poor & season 8 was okay.
