Audience numbers Bounce around for Seven

There are mixed fortunes for Seven's new football shows with its NRL version performing better than its AFL counterpart this week.

There are mixed fortunes for Seven’s new football shows after last night’s figures, in this non-ratings week.

The Matty Johns Show pulled 267,000 viewers in Sydney and 144,000 in Brisbane, beaten by Getaway (284,000 / 169,000) and The Biggest Loser (289,000, 207,000).

But The Bounce took 250,000 in Melbourne, 60,000 in Adelaide and 47,000 in Perth trailing Getaway (365,000 / 106,000  /103,000), and The Biggest Loser (301,000 / 100,000 / 133,000). In Adelaide and Perth it also lost to The 7:30 Report (81,000 / 94,000). Even more disappointment was the show being beaten by Nine’s Footy Show (363,000 / 112,000 / 101,000) at the later 9:30pm timeslot.

There was better luck in the NRL states as The Matty Johns Show stayed ahead of Nine’s NRL Footy Show 135,000 and 102,000 -but comparisons are hardly equitable given the different timeslots.

Seven’s new shows have been on air for just three weeks. Next week when schedules are running at full steam will be a much truer test of how networks are performing.

  1. If you take out My kitchen rules (which was a blatant rip off of Masterchef), channel seven’s light entertainment has been absolutely disastrous this year. First the White room, then the bounce and the Matthew Johns show.

As viewers are getting smarter, these execs are getting much dumber. On the bright side if the bounce comes sixth in perth again (has this ever happened to primetime show) and gets beaten by GO!, then surely someone will lose their job.

There’s a reason more people watch a repeat of top gear on GO! than the bounce – it’s a good show, with good hosts which doesn’t treat the audience like complete morons.

  2. I loved the Bounce. Richo and Mathews made interesting comments and I watched it with my kids and we all laughed. The Nth Melbourne ground announcement was laugh out loud funny!

  3. David very surprised to see you write something vaguely negative about the bounce. Does that mean Rick McKenna won’t be leaking you anymore stories? If even you’re jumping off this show then it must be a real stinker.

    1. Equally surprised you think I am apparently favouring them. Maybe you better go back to The Bounce review and check some of the mixed reactions I had over the show then? Rick McKenna most certainly didn’t leak that story to me. I took the story to him, as I have noted before (including to Mediaweek). Declining figures for any new show is News why wouldn’t I log it?

  4. Dont want to say “I told you so”…but I did! Peter helliar and to a lesser extent, Matt Johns are not hosts. They can do there funny segments, but lead or direct a programm.

My solution and I do not like 7..but for one time only…bring back Bruce Mcaveney. He has credibilty and knows his stuff!

    There I said it!

  5. I just don’t think that there is a need for it. Channel 10 News Perth does a really good (and unbiased) Super AFL Thursday which covers everything. I don’t see why Channel 7 needs to have his show. I watched a couple of minutes and that was enough for me.
