So what are the top television-related websites in Australia?

Media and marketing website Mumbrella has listed the web results for March as ranked by Nielsen Market Intelligence, which logs sites with advertisements (ABC sites, for example, are exempt) based on Australian traffic.

Although not audited, the sites were ranked with Monthly Unique Browsers and Monthly Page Impressions.

1. Yahoo!7 TV – 1,628,938  / 13,003,829
2. TVFix – 1,259,679  / 15,180,249
3. TV.com – 563,767 / 3,884,342
4. Channel Ten – 529,684 / 2,691,937
5. Foxtel – 519,130 / 3,688,077
6. BigPond TV – 362,312 / 715,297
7. Channel Nine – 350,659  / 1,687,746
8. biggestloser.com.au – 277,681 / 2,592,872
9. dance.ten.com.au – 258,906 / 1,923,455
10. TV Tonight – 158,422 / 917,758

A big thankyou to loyal readers of this site for making TV Tonight the only independently-run site to make the Top Ten.

You’ve also put the site ahead of others in the Top 30 including Prime TV, Neighbours, SBS, FOX8, The 7PM Project, Rove Daily, MasterChef, Arena, The Comedy Channel, Australian Idol, SciFi, UK TV and more (and it’s still the only independent site amongst that list).

Since July last year TV Tonight has been hovering around 1,000,000 page impressions a month.

With MasterChef, Logies and Eurovision on the way, May will see the busiest traffic.

  1. Don’t give a crap what the figures say – this website is no.1 in my books.
You do a fantastic job David – specially when you all those other TV sites are run by mega-rich, mega-powerful companies. You give them all flogging week in, week out in my books.
    Keep up the amazing job!!!!

    1. The site has had Pay TV ratings for over a year in a weekly format.

During the ratings period they are added every Monday to the preceding week tally, so it requires you to go back and check. This keeps all the data from that week archived together.

The easiest way to do this is to click on the previous week’s ratings and read the weekly wrap up which will be linked at the top of the post. This will take you to the Sunday story that says who won the week, plus the Top 100 plus Pay TV results. It includes both the Pay 100 and the results as distributed by ASTRA which is a slightly different formula. In non ratings weeks such as the two we have had now it won’t include Pay 100.

To give you an example, see the wrap up of Week 13 here with all the info. How do you find this? You click on Week 13 and follow the links.

Next Monday Pay ratings will be added to Week 16 etc.

  2. David – you’re welcome! Altho’, really, it’s down to you producing a a high quality site in the first place. If it was shi!t instead of The sh!t, I for one, wouldn’t keep coming back. So, thankyou, David.

  3. Congratulations. If this site was a tv show you would be outrating ABC 2’s live Opera coverage, and I suspect most of ABC3 and SBS2 on some timeslots. Let us all consider the implications of that. TV Tonight is better than most traditional media for tv related news. It gets stories out faster, it has interesting interviews and often great discussion.

  4. Congrats, David! Of that list, I only ever check out TVFix but only for the TV listings, not for anything else. Some of their news even seems from this very site.

  5. The current 3 month average Alexa world ranking for tvtonight.com.au is 97,845. For any site to get in the top 100,000 is a great achievement. Well done for this too David!

  6. Congrats David, you must be stoked! I continually recommend this site to people and forward the RSS feeds to people at work or links to the pages. This site seems to be the definitive source of truth for TV in Australia, and without it I would miss so much that goes on.
