Cougar Town, How I Met Your Mother fans angry

Viewers surged online last night to vent their anger upon discovering two of their Thursday comedies had disappeared from their TVs.

It started at 2:12pm yesterday, and it never really let up until just before midnight.

TV Tonight received a surge of complaints yesterday as more viewers began to realise that Cougar Town and How I Met Your Mother had been pulled from Seven’s schedule.

At their peak, the comments were flooding in at just a minute apart. All of them were angry about the shows being pulled, with many viewers complaining they enjoyed the shows and they were taken off without notice. Such are the realities of modern day programming.

There was also little love for the replacement show Criminal Minds with many readers commenting that its murderous agenda wouldn’t fit their desire for a laugh at the end of the day. Some called for a boycott or threatened to ban other Seven shows as a result of the switch.

It’s been a while since this sort of fury has generated such immediate passion here, memorably reflected when Nine pulled Fringe and TEN (repeatedly) dumped Supernatural fans went into a tailspin (fans of the latter are still leaving regular comments on this old story).

Jodie said: “How bitterly disappointing!! Just what we need another criminal investigation show. Its nice to be able to sit down at the end of a day and enjoy a good laugh, instead of going to bed thinking about murders and crimes.”

Marie said: “I can not believe you have axed Cougar Town & How I Met Your Mother!!! The only show I watch on free to air t.v… back to Austar for me.”

Lisa said: “What a joke! Had the kids in bed, ready with the icecream for my only night of tv worth watching – Cougar Town followed by HIMYM and whatttt its been cancelled – very unhappy now.”

Hollywood Syd said: “I only watch one show on Channel 7.. or used to.. HIMYM. I guess I won’t be watching the station at all now. At least put it on 7TWO which seems to be a dumping ground for all your other axed shows.”

Danielle said: “Here I am waiting for my Thursday night duo of Cougar Town and HIMYM to find out its not on 🙁 It was my hour of laugh and now its gone. Booo Criminal Minds, NCIS is so much better anyway!”

Sonia said: “Wow, just tuned in to watch Cougar Town and it is gone. At least I can type in “how come Cougar Town is not showing now on Seven” and I get a response, unlike the notice that we have received from the actual TV station. Very dissappointed, it was funny.”

Manda said: “You need a new boss! I loved Cougar Town! It was great to have something new on instead of repeats.”

megs said: “I will no longer watch any new shows on channel 7 sick of falling in love wiith them to have you just take them off I will be only be buying tv on DVD.”

No doubt whoever was manning the phones for Seven last night can tell a similar tale.

  1. It is back on Thursday.Why did they ever get rid of these comedies in the first place.the best part is now we have family guy and American dad on afterwards for those of us able to stay up later for them.

  3. Thankfully they took Cougar Town and How I Met Your Mother of air ! both shows were and are cringe worthy low end market writing , ciomedy , talent , timing…etc , Neil Patrick Harris and that girl of Buffy should be able to find work afterwards as they are about the only true talents

  4. I will now have to buy it on DVD instead. Thursday night is my ‘Fabric Wall Art’ night and i love to do my Art whilst watching Cougar Town and How I Met Your Mother. So much for that. You are really letting the people of Australia down Ch7, shame on you
