Just when you thought it was safe to put the Olympics behind you.....

Just when you thought it was safe to put the Olympics behind you….. here come the Commonwealth Games.

Foxtel personality Matt Shirvington will present the baton to NSW Deputy Premier, Carmel Tebbutt on the Sydney Opera House steps, with a  function hosted by SKY News sports presenter James Bracey on Monday, April 19th at 1.00pm.

The event is open to the public to attend.

The baton left Buckingham Palace on October 29, and travels through all 70 Commonwealth nations on a journey that will cover a distance of more than 190,000 kilometres in 340 days, making the Delhi 2010 Queen’s Baton Relay one of the longest in the history of the Commonwealth Games.

“I am honoured to be taking part in the Queen’s Baton Relay,” said Shirvington.

“The Commonwealth Games signify the start of my international athletic career. As a young athlete I was inspired by watching Australian athletes competing at such an elite level and loved the thought of doing it myself one day. “

The baton relay will continue to Melbourne and Brisbane and the Gold Coast eventually ending at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium during the Opening Ceremony of the XIX Commonwealth Games on October 3rd.
