Lisa wins The Biggest Loser 2010

Lisa Hose becomes the first-ever female Biggest Loser winner, as TEN announces a new series looking for families of 4.

Lisa Hose has won The Biggest Loser 2010.

She lost 56.2kgs, 46.10% of her body weight beating Joe who lost 82.7kgs, 45.97% of his body weight.

41yo Lisa from Perth won $370,000 for her efforts and the title of the first ever female Biggest Loser. As the bearer of the special “Double” bracelet, she takes home twice the cash kitty set at $185,000.

Joining them in the final four were Shannon and Wayne.

Final weigh-ins were:

Lisa lost 56.2kg (46.10%).
Joe lost 82.7kgs (45.97%)
Shannon lost 89.6kg (41.81%).
Wayne lost 62.8kg (38.89%).

The finale also celebrated previous winners and contestants Adro, Tracy, Courtney, Sean, Alison, Sam, Meaghan, Sami, Sharif and Bob.

This season started in controversy after one team was withdrawn from the production prior to the show airing, resulting in drastic editing by producers.

New host, the sometimes tearful Hayley Lewis won viewer support for her empathy with contestants, but hasn’t managed to shift the role of a Biggest Loser host from their dependence on an autocue.

The show also had its health critics this year, who questioned the show’s demands on contestants. Some contestants had to withdraw from challenges following medical advice. Another was hospitalised and left the contest entirely. Much attention was directed at the show’s punishing 42km marathon, along with questions about whether weekly weigh-ins fairly represented how much contestants had lost in 7 days.

The show also had its own challenges with a new timeslot. Following The 7PM Project the show was said to be impacted by its lead-in.

But the show has been one of TEN’s tentpole productions and Shine Australia, which resumes the rights from FremantleMedia Australia, has faith in re-energising it for 2011.

TEN has already announced auditions for a Family version of The Biggest Loser, calling on teams of families of 4.

  1. Can’t wait until next year, although I think it is a bit wrong they are doing families of 4… It will be very different to what we know already. Hayley has a challenging tast on her hands but she will do it and she will do it well. I imagine the families won’t necessarily be a mum, dad and 2 kids and I hope all contestants are over 18
    love TBL 🙂

  2. Awww I’m happy Lisa won coz of the first female biggest loser 😉 but it must have been soooo disappointing for Joe… Like 200g difference 🙁

still it’s a good show with fantastic people and I love the trainers too

Hayley is a good host 😀 loveeee her!!

  3. Apparently, two hours after I posted the message here that no WA newspaper websites had picked up the story, WAtoday.com.au and The West Australian both had articles on Lisa’s win, with lots of quotes from her.

  4. Nice that a woman won for a change. I was sure Joe was going to win because he was the last to weigh in and most TBL winners have been the ones to weigh in last. But then Lisa surprised us!

  5. “the show was said to be impacted by its lead-in”

It’s incredibly infuriating how people continue to believe this (not aiming this comment at David by the way). It was not impacted by its lead-in at all, it was impacted by the tougher competition in the 7:30 slot than 7:00. Neighbours was its old lead-in and that didn’t make a difference.

@DAN and george – Speaking of incredibly infuriating, when did damo ever say he watched the show? Last time I checked, it wasn’t impossible to dislike a show you don’t watch.

  6. I dont expect all the contestants to stay as thin as they are at the finale. Most of them have been able to maintain their weight – I dont think Lisa will go down the obese path ever again; she was committed to losing weight and being the best role model she could for her children.

@ Damo – I dont think TBL is classified as entertainment.

  7. Sadly, how long will it be before she puts weight back on?

The contestants in this farcial show are pushed both physically and phsychologically to their limit in a relatively short time span by two trainers with faux empathy. They basically torture them for hours a day to get the weight off that took years to gain.

Then when it’s all done, the shock and awe approach doesn’t compensate for the participants returning to a normal life or the emotional and physical stresses that persons individual life brings upon them. Who has the time and money to exercise 4 or 5 hours a day, everyday??

  8. If it’s on the front page, I don’t mind. I have the link to videos bookmarked so I never see the front page. It was spoiled on the banner at the top with all their faces. I tried to scroll past it, but I saw it immediately… all the faces were greyed out, except the winner who was in full colour. 🙁

  9. I watched the whole season online on the Biggest Loser website so naturally went there this morning to watch the finale and what do I see? None other than the bloody winner at the top of the page! I avoided reading the news sites this morning to avoid finding out the winner, only to be spoiled on the official website. Wonderful.
