Sports fans flocked to ONE on Sunday giving the channel a rare win over its digital channel rivals.

ONE took a whopping 6.3% share ahead of GO! on 5.7%, 7TWO on 2.3%, ABC2 on 0.8%, SBS TWO on 0.5% and ABC3 on 0.4%.

FIA Formula One World Championship 2010 scored a huge 327,000 viewers -that was more than the 317,000 viewers who watched Survivors on Nine last night. It was more than twice the figure the broadcast took on TEN.

Another 141,000 watched the Pre-Race while 121,000 watched the IPL Twenty20 Cricket.

In the Malaysian-hosted Grand Prix Australian Mark Webber finished second to teammate Sebastian Vettel.

ONE’s 6.3% share was also more than the share for SBS ONE of 5.3%.

Added to TEN’s share for the evening, the network managed to finish second for the night ahead of Nine.

  1. Only channel missing on Fox satelite otherwise figures could have been better. The sports portfolio is getting stronger maybe Ten will consider it.

Webber’s got some way to go in comparison to Button or has that rivilary gone by the way side.

  2. @ Craig re an Aussie driver to take over from Webber

There is an Aussie driver waiting in the wings. His name is Daniel Ricciardo and he is the test driver for Red Bull. He was quite impressive at the young drivers tests at the end of last year and looks to be the next driver to be promoted to Red Bull/Toro Rosso

  3. Ten need to advertise one better, i never see a coming up on one promo, surley they can put some promos on ten during high rating shows like ncis

  4. @Danny Wu – the F1 we re-run at 10:40pm and will be re-run on ONE Friday, check your guides.

@Matt I know there are conflicts but I still doubt they will put any sport on a 3rd channel, more likely it would go on the main (original) channel TEN.

In 2 weeks the China round will be live at 5pm Sunday EST time on ONE and re-run around 10:30pm on TEN. Again check you guides.

FYI if you have an iPhone then there is a great and Free app for live updates and much more for every round of this years series. Great also to keep track of coming races and their times. David this is not an advert just info for the F1 fans.

  5. I wouldn’t be surprised to see ONE repeat those kind of figures regularly over the next few months – they’ve got some high profile sports on their books. The problem they face is during the summer period. If they can’t secure the rights to some attractive sports – say the A-League and/or domestic 20/20 cricket (I know they’ve snared the NBL away from Fox) – their audience figures will plummet dramatically and undo all their hard work during the year.

  6. Craig, sometimes there are clashes, so it would be good to see them use the 2nd SD channel for that, wouldn’t be much of the channel just when they occasionally have clashes

Was wondering how well last night’s lineup would go, great news to hear it go so well.

  7. Why would TEN run any sports on it’s ‘general entertainment’ channel when it has a 24/7 HD sport channel already?

Good going TEN/ONE now we just need to find a local driver to take over from Webber when he retires, which could be at the end of this year.

  8. I am glad for them.

ONE launched first and set the standard for secondary (commercial) digital channels.

I think over time the audience will increase, as people are more likely to flick past and watch whatever sport is on. Or become more familiar with their programming.
