Ratings winners: how you stacked up

If TV Tonight readers are to be believed, it's MasterChef's premiere that will end up with the biggest rating figure in the current brawls.

If TV Tonight readers are to be believed, it’s MasterChef‘s premiere that will end up with the biggest rating figure in the current brawls.

Over 1200 readers voted in the recent poll which was suitably close on the Hey Hey / Pacific battle, but ultimately incorrect. You tipped a close Hey Hey win.

But TEN’s cooking show has a lot on its plate if it is to beat the premiere of Nine’s crim drama last Sunday night.

Here is how you voted on the question of who would net the biggest average:

MasterChef 29.02%
Underbelly 27.88% (2.23m Ep1)
Hey Hey 16.01% (1.52m)
Pacific 14.06% (1.59m)
Aust Got Talent 2.35% (1.49m)
The Biggest Loser finale 2.11%
Dance finale 1.21%

No idea, impossible to pick! 7.361%

  1. In reply to Buffalo’s message on 16 April 2010, yes Australia’s got talent – and all the ‘talent’ shows source acts simply to mock them on television and ‘make a show’. Hopefuls are made to audition upto 3-4 times infront of the show’s producers before they get to the judges… and even if the judges say yes, it does not mean they will be on the show, the producers make the call…. the sad part is, a lot of very talented people get knocked back becauce they’re not ‘what they’re looking for’

  2. Unfortunately most Australians don’t even seem to know the ABC exists Runner. This has been proven by episodes of the Vicar of Dibley that aired years ago on the ABC getting big ratings for their first run on Seven over Summer.

  3. TV Tonight readers are showing how well they know TV and Australian viewing habits- geez, we’re smart aren’t we?
I also thought Masterchef would come out on top however now that Underbelly is still proving to pack quite a punch, I doubt MC will exceed UB’s figures. The superfluous MC “Celebrity” edition diluted the brand, leaving viewers with a *bad taste* in their mouth… they would have been *hungrier* for a new series had it been left at the July finale. Oh God it’s contagious…

  4. Speaking of Australia’s got Talent…is it true they sourced the square dancers on the show just to mock them?
I know Idol used to invite talented artists to the audition process but haven’t Ch 7 producers hit a new low seeking out people to perform on the show only to be openly mocked…gee…
Any news on this one David?

  5. Masterchef ratings built slowly last year because it was an unknown entity, whereas this year it has an audience that is ready, waiting and hungry to sink their teeth into S2 (food pun intended), If Underbelly can do 2.23m in its third season, I reckon Masterchef will at least match that for the S2 premiere.

And really, how can anyone resist Matt Preston? The man is a sophisticated giant in a cravat and I have missed his eloquence on my TV…

  6. Said it before and will say it again but I am confident it won’t hit the heights of last year. Julie beaten Poh ruined the integrity of the show much like when Casey beat Anthony Callea Idol 2004 – the series never recovered from it and I see the same happening here…. although I have been wrong before :p

  7. I think Masterchef will only premier to around 1.4. It will drop and build over the season but to premier to 2.2 million is very unrealistic considering those are figures it was only getting in the last weeks of the season last year.

  8. It’s possible for MC to better 2.2 m considering the ratings for the finale. I reckon it’ll get something like 1.7m though but build towards 2m + figures later.

  9. Masterchef has been my favourite show of the last god knows how many years (except Glee this year) I don’t doubt that it will perform very well; but I don’t think it’s going to be Massive every single night; that’s a little unrealistic. It will probably premiere big and stay around the 1.3-1.5 mil on weeknights I think until it builds in the final weeks like last year.
