British comedy Benidorm will air in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth later this month.

Originally set for 7TWO but withdrawn, it will follow the Vicar of Dibley at 8:45pm on Thursday May 20th.

Benidorm is set in the Spanish resort of the same name and exploits the typical working-class Brits abroad. Written by Derren Litten, one of Catherine Tate’s writers, it is already up to its third series in the UK.

The cast includes Steve Pemberton, Siobhan Finneran, Sheila Reid, Geoffrey Hutchings and Wendy Richard. The show has won Most Popular Comedy Programme at the UK’s National Television Awards and been nominated at the BAFTAs.

The Solana apartments in Benidorm play host to a variety of clientele, all looking for one thing; value for money. There’s never a dull moment as these holiday makers expect to be treated to their ideal mix of fun in the sun in this hilarious British comedy set in an all inclusive holiday resort in one of the more infamous destinations on The Costa Blanca.

Double Amazing Race will follow at 9:45pm.

Thus far Sydney and Brissy viewers will remain with Criminal Minds repeats following The Matty Johns Show.

  1. There is no Australian version of Benidorm being made in the UK they have just done a Xmas special and series 4 starts next year for any fans of matteo aka jake canuso if you have a twitter account you can follow him at @jake canuso

  2. this show is not too bad but honestly I have not seen people in resorts act like that. What Seven should consider doing is a home grown Benidorm type concept but replace Spain with either the Gold Coast or Bali here in Australia.

  3. I love Benidorm and always look for it when on international flights.
Oh, Channel 7 please do not behave like Channel 9 and chop and change your programming. Please let folks discover the joy of such an inappropriate and socially unacceptable joys that Benidorm gives us all and we’ll repay you with improved ratings and praise… Something that Channel 9 hasn’t had in a llllooonnnnggg time!

  4. I do wish though Channel 7 had the decency to have retained How I met your Mother and Cougar Town but as a lead in to this Beni Dorm.Vicar is way too out of date for the generation and fans of the American Sitcoms.

  5. It may not be Cougar Town or How I met your Mother but this restores my faith in Channel 7 on a Thursday Night.Anything has got to be better than an hour of crime shows

  6. @Bella, Seven could start to read this blog, because frankly there have been some great suggestions on what Seven could do on Thursday nights.

  7. Thought I saw ads for this on 7TWO. Channel 7 really don’t know what to do with Thursday nights.

Still not happy about having to wait so late for The Amazing Race.

  8. Has an Australian version of this show been produced? I slightly recall watching a pilot of a show similar to this British version a few months ago. From memory Sybilla Budd was one of the more notable actors involved.
Does anyone know if an Aussie version has been made any further?

  9. that’s a great idea. looking forward to this. why not airing in Syd/bris? could it go to fridays there?

there sure has been a carosel of shows on 7’s thursday but Vicar, benidorm, TAR looks like a good lineup for me. vicar was great last night i hadn’t seen those eps yet it is a laugh per second show that hasn’t aged at all.
