ABC1 has a repeat of the Logie-nominated episode on the story of the family of Somalian hostage Nigel Brennan, with a new introduction by Brennan.

Next Monday night ABC1 will repeat its Logie-nominated episode of Australian Story, which tells the story of the family of Australian photojournalist Nigel Brennan, who negotiated with Somalian hostage-takers for his release.

The episode features a special introduction by Nigel Brennan himself, recorded just a few days ago.

It will also be available for preview online until 2pm Friday and can be found here

In August 2008, Bundaberg photojournalist Nigel Brennan was kidnapped in Somalia, along with Canadian reporter Amanda Lindhout. The governments of both countries requested a media blackout as they negotiations with the kidnappers, who were demanding a multi-million dollar ransom.

But in May 2009, the Brennan family decided to talk exclusively to Australian Story when their frustrations with the Australian Federal Police effort and concerns for Nigel spilled over, forcing them to engage a private international hostage negotiator.

During the seven months that followed, the family was thrust into the shadowy world of international kidnap and ransom. With Nigel’s life at stake, the Brennans navigated uncharted territory, doing anything and everything to bring Nigel home.

In November 2009, viewers witnessed an ordinary television event when the Brennan family reached the eleventh hour of tenuous negotiations with his captors and orchestrated his release on November 26.

It airs 8pm Monday on ABC1.
