Big Bang Theory sets new digital high

Thursday's repeat of The Big Bang Theory set a new viewing record for a digital channel with 454,000 viewers.

Thursday’s repeat of The Big Bang Theory set a new viewing record for a digital channel with 454,000 viewers.

That topped the previous high of 388,000 for the same show in mid April.

Aside from a Top Gear episode, The Big Bang Theory holds 6 of the top 7 spots in digital channel audiences so far.

The best for ONE has been the Australian FIA Formula One in March with 367,000.

That’s good news for Nine which pulled the biggest audience of 2010 the day before with the State of Origin.

GO! pulled a huge 4.9% share last night, more than 7TWO, ABC2 and ONE combined. It also surpassed both SBS channels combined.

Are Thursday nights too soft in content and it’s driving more people to digital channels?

  1. Big Bang is better than most sitcoms, the non ‘laugh track’ clip that was posted a while ago would have been from rehearse before the audiance is let in for the taping.

  2. We have a pretty full night on Thursdays! There’s Masterchef and Glee – we DVR Spicks and Specks while Glee’s on, watch it, then have that done in time to see Graham Norton which takes us right up until bedtime!

  3. @ tom..
you may think its a S**t show…but it rates and it rates Very well….
and theres ALot of views who would disagree with your comments…
say what u will..it wont stop this show from rating the way it has!

  4. Big Bang Theory is a s**t show. go to youtube and watch it without the laughter track.its got nothing in the funny department. The only thing going for it is the hot chick that lives next door. i think david has posted the link before not long ago to the clip

  5. Why can’t TEN bring back “Outrageous Fortune” it’s a great show from NZ they showed it on friday nights back in January this year but after two weeks they moved it to a 11:30pm & now don’t screen it. Would be good to see Outrageous Fortune at 9pm on a thursday night straight after Glee!.

  6. I’ve prob seen every ep of BBT several times now but I still get a laugh out of it. It’s the funniest show on tv. Luv it. doesn’t matter what else was on I’d prob still prefer to watch it.

  7. I second Ten creating their third channel already. If they aired Smallville/Supernatural back to back on Thursday nights I reckon they’d pull some decent figures, say 150-200k on top of whats already on the main channel. Melrose and 90210 will probably flop…the latter deservedly so, as its one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen. MP was a good show though

  8. One thing I watch on the main channels Thursday night is the ABC “Voyage to the Planets”, so yes not much interest on the others so I switch to BBT on GO!

Yes we need TEN3 (or whatever they will call it) ASAP, being back the shows we love before 2011, every day is costing them viewers as they turn to other means like renting or buying the shows on DVD.

  9. I wouldn’t be watching Big Bang repeats I’ve seen so many times on Thursday nights if Seven had Cougar Town and HIMYM back on at 8:30/9:00…..

No one wants to watch bloody Criminal Minds repeats!

  10. This is why TEN need to get their 3rd channel up and running with the shows people want, such as Melrose Place, 90210, Monk, Psych, Smallville, Friends, Malcolm, the list goes on and on and on.

  11. Maybe the question should be – are the Commercial station devoid of content? I certainly found interesting content on ABC that I enjoyed and preferred to watch.

  12. As one of the best comedy shows being produced at the moment, its great to see so many enjoying it ! Sadly the season finale aired in the US this week and we have to wait until Sept for new episodes.

  13. thursday night is such a tv wasteland!
every thursday you see the digital channels gain so much traction (particularly in Adelaide!), however on the nights where the three primary networks have strong content it’s not nearly as bad (eg. Sundays!)
